Here's a few threads along the lines of

"one line tips" or "one liner of wisdom"...

Starter for 10....

Bold your one liner....

"Even when using a tripod for long exps, make sure it's a heavy one and weight down the tripod with your camera bag or anything else you can get your hands on, esp for shorter long exps (1 or 2 seconds) as the shutter may jerks the camera slightly and give a dodgy image - esp when used with the zoom"

Along the same lines as the previous comment, the two second timer is a must for shorter long shots to avoid shaking the camera while pressing the shutter.

[B]Where possible, use a cable release. Any movement from pressing the shutter will show up on the shot[B]

If shooting in a city centre at night always go with a buddy (or two). One person with expensive photo gear is vulnerable, two or three are not.

I know it's an old thread, but it's a good'un.

ALWAYS have your lens hood attached, flare is just as much a problem at night with sodium street lamps etc. as it is on a sunny day. Nothing worse than having to clone flare out of 200+ shots.
