Hi, I bought my wife an Olympus mju 740, great for a point and press! The problem is that when you point and press in sunlight all you can see is your own reflection. Not the subject. Anyone got any good ideas on this?

Hmmm difficult one...

Perhaps if you point it away from you
when you take the shot... *wink*

Would that help?

Upload a shot for us to see..

Am I right in assuming you mean this is all you see on the LCD screen on the back of the camera?

If so, you can get hoods to put over the screen in sunlight, or, if the camera has one, you can use the viewfinder.

Yes you can buy hoods for the screen - there were loads at this years focus - cant remember the name of the company though - Im sure a google search would find them for you.

It doesn't help solve your problem, but it's precisely because of the problem you describe that I would never buy a camera without an optical viewfinder.

The problem is that there is no viewfinder. On her last camera, a great little Nikon, there was screen and viewfinder - its not until you don't have a viewfinder that you miss it.

I've tried Olympus who just say "Unfortunately due to the nature of the materials that the LCD screen is made from, there will be some reflection......"

I've tried Jessops in Yeovil where I bought it from - the manager Steve Horsey said if it's outside the 30 day guarantee - it's my problem. Obviously their customer service is only exceeded by their share price at the moment - maybe it's another reflection.

Trading Standards say I need an "expert" or someone who is knowledgable about cameras to give an independant view - any offers?

I don't believe I'm the only person with this problem and would love to hear from any other sufferers!

Many thanks

Charles

Excellent outcome, those really nice chaps at Jessops have given me a refund - which is great! But what do I now buy? It must have a viewfinder, be easy to use (probably not too many options) have decent battery and be small/light to carry round!

Any suggestions?
