Hi All
This may be a simple question, but I am not sure of the answer.
Whats the largest enlargement to go for with a 4 megapixel camera (Picture at best res available). I am looking to enlarge up to A3 but don't want to waste money on poor results.
Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
Well...I've had a 20" x 16" out of a 6meg camera ...and regularly get 16x12's with no problem at all ...I think the best image would probably be at about A4, but I'm guessing as I don't have a 4meg camera ...

undefinedundefinedundefinedI have had images up to 20X30 printed and could go larger using an 8.2 digital camera. Size does not seem to be a problem if you are looking for quality. :) I find digital very exciting as you are never limited by things like you were with film...I have been into digital now for just over 5 years.

undefined You should have good results up to about 11x14 size with proper camera technique and a quality camera...Sorry misread the question...

Hi Neil
I have a Canon D30 which is a bout 4.8 megapixels. I could get 20 by 16 from it as long as the image was good to start with.

4 mega pixels - pathetic.
Pro tip - if you are only using prosumer gear then get Genuine Fractals to enlarge the file before printing :p

Size doesn't matter... (So my wife tells me...)
As the "pro" derekpye states there are programs out there
to generate larger files/images.
A cheaper way of course is to blow them up (enlarge) in PSP
or photoshop and do something arty with them...
Histogram it or perhaps even the sketch function....

Derek
The D30 was my first DSLR bought over 3 years ago.
I did not say it was my current camera.
Being a "PRO" yourself (like most of us here by the way) I thought you would realise that.
I was comparing it to the camera in the original post to give some comparison.

thanks all ... not being a "pro" I can't afford a new camera.... I'll give it a try at 11x14 and see how well they come out.

Dont worry Derek pye has been removed. We are bound to get morons like him from time to time.
If anybody notices fools like him please email me and I will roemove them.
"Pros" like him do not stay "Pros" for long :D

it takes a 4.2 m file for a quality finished print
you can do the math if you use the minimum ppi of 150
multiply that 150 by the length, write down that number
then do the same for the Height
add these two numbers
bet they are 4.2 m :)

what? 4.2 metres ? :)

Not worth getting into a discussion about spelling and usage when we all come from different parts of the world. My dictionary says....
meter = device or person who measures
metre = metric unit of length.
A bit like you say "tomato" and I say "tomato" :D :D
....let's call the whole thing off :)
