View Full Version : Using the current file name in action?

Hello,

I saved an action in CS2 to save the file with an "a" added at the end of the name.

The save works fine but it uses the same filename as I used when I created the action rather than the name of the file I was working on when I ran the action IYSWIM.

I created the action on file123.jpg and recorded the action to create file123a.jpg. (by Cntrl-Shift-S, using the cursor keys to add an "a" and then saving)

Luckily I noticed after 20 files ***sarcasm3**

Any idea if I can do what I want ?

Cheers

I'm keeping an eye here - I'd love to know too. Good luck, Mark.

I found this ..

"If you record an action that saves with a specified file name and folder and deselect Override Action “Save As” Commands, the same file will be overwritten each time. If you’ve recorded your Save As step in the action without specifying a file name, the Batch command will save it to the same folder each time, but will use the file name of the document being saved."

So it looks like you CAN save with the current file name - BUT there doesn't seem to be a way to add "a" to the name so it will overwrite the file. Of course I think I could save to alternative directory and then rename afterwards. oh well.

Cheers

I save mine to a different folder with the same filename.
