I don't really know renee..but have you tried renaming them as jpegs?
You know just right click on the name then select remane..the name it what you want and add .jpg after it....a box will pop up saying that it might be unusable but just click ok...you can undo by clicking edit>undo anyways if it doesnt work...:)

Thanks for the help Sue... I sent a cry for help to George and he said that I lost the extension name... and needed to put a .jpg after ... and POW when I did I got my images back... I tell ya... after I sat here and was re doing all those images again.. thank goodness I had only done to folders. Then came into the forum to see if any one responded... well, long story short I got like 6 folders of about 30-50 images in each all back now just got to rename and get going n finishing up this wedding. Hey does any one use or know of a good renaming program that doesnt move your final images back around when you rename them...? Thanks, Sue and "GOD BLESS GEORGE" he is my life saver........

Hey does any one use or know of a good renaming program that doesnt move your final images back around when you rename them...?
If you are on windows you could open a command prompt (Start, Run, cmd), navigate to the directory and then type
rename *.* *.jpg
that will rename all files in that directory - giving them all a jpg extension (and leave them where they are)
test it in a non critical directory first !!!!
You can play with the *.* to catch files you want ..eg wed*.* would catch all files starting with "wed".
Hope that helps

Hi Renee,
I loaded a program a few years ago and you've probably heard of it. The name is Picasa. You already have the photos in folders. Picasa puts all your folders in the program and when you click on a folder you can rename all the photos under one name. Lets say you have Joe and Mary's wedding. You give it that name and it will name the photos Joe and Mary001 - Joe and Mary100 if you have 100 photos in that folder. If you have more it just keeps numbering.

Thanks Earl... I had ELF RENAMING as a trial and should just break down and buy the darn thing.... The problem I am haivng with PSC2 is that it tends to put them all your images back out of the order you want all the images in.... ELF kept those images all IN the order... I will check out Picasa..... BUT just want to say thank you everyone your so very helpful.

If you are looking for s/w ..checkout BreezeBrowser (http://www.breezesys.com).
You can display images in a variety of ways (including time the image was taken - regardless of what time you modified it - great to get the day in a chronological order after you have editted them).
There is then a batch rename function that lets you play with names, numbering and a variety of other parameters)
I use it to get images in a final sequence for the client DVD/CD.
It's not free - but maybe the renaming function isn't restricted in the demo version.
Cheers

The problem I am having is that I use a second shooter on most weddings that I do and with her images blending them into the mix. This last wedding that I just finished editing I had such a hard time with the renaming and keeping all the images into the order that I wanted them in... We are talking 300 images that the b/g are going to recieve, with 75 being from what my second shooter shot the day of the wedding. I have in the past kept all my images into sub folders... bride getting ready, groom ready, church, formals, rec., etc... I then try to keep the bride ready shoot renamed first as A.ready, then B.groom ready, and so fourth. then take all those and copy all into one big folder and then do a total renaming so that they go from 1 to 375 seams like alot of work. Was wondering how you all do your final edit with renaming your images.... ? Thanks!

put all images into one folder, then open in cs bridge, then drag your images around into your order of preference, once you have them all lined up as how you like it, then goto batch rename, and rename, they will do this in the order you have organised them into. Then you dont need to worry about the second shooter camera file names.

oh thanks Barry... I was org. them all in another folder and then opening them into bridge and that is when they all go out of order.... so I will try it that way.... Your the best!
