Hi all
I am hoping that someone on the forum may have experienced the problem that I am encountering, I have a logitech optical mouse with a cord and a usb conection, and for some reason the cursor has begun to jump all over the sceen when I attempt to use it, I am able to control it some of the time, but it just seems to have a mind of its own, I am running Windows XP Home edition with SP2 and have a an up to date PC, anyone have any ideas on a cure, or even know what has suddenly caused the change, as it was fine up to two days ago.
I have also tried my old mouse, also an optical logitech model too, and the same problem occurs, any help would be appreciated.

Just a really silly question...have you tried connecting it via a different USB port? Apart from that...me know nothing, sorry!

1, have you checked the lazer bit underneath for any stray hair or anything like that, it caused an issue with me like you mention.
2. Are you using it on a plain surface or plain colour mousemat, another issue i had when using it on a wood effect desk, it went haywire.
Other than that no idea.

You will find it is the surface your using it on. try a different mousemat. is the surface shiny ? This can be the problem.

OOOO I remembered something else. This happened to me and was driving me nuts. Cursor jumping all over the screen.
Finally realised that i had left the pen on my graphics tablet which was interfering with the mouse movements.
Just another idea.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the advice, I tried Di O's suggestion first with the usb connection, things continued much the same as before, I then followed Barry's advice and changed mousemats from a light colour that was textured, to a dark colour that was smooth, and believe it or not, it worked, what puzzles me is how come the mouse has not been erratic before, I have been using the same mouse mat for over two years with no problems.
Congratulations on finding the mouse website, has to go to paulstmungo, I will be passing that on to a few friends in future!!
Can I thank everyone else who contributed an answer in my time of need, thats what makes this forum so special.

Ah great its sorted mate.
ps a reason it might have worked before and not now is maybe the pads are wearing out on underside of mouse and as they do the optical laser gets closer to the surface, might only be a fraction but enough for the optics to see things a bit closer and screw up.
