I've got a problem with photoshop CS2 which has mysteriously suddenly just started happening. Open an image in CS2 and it appears de-saturated (about -5). View it in the windows browser or Nikon capture 4 and it is normally saturated. The only way I can 'force' CS2 to show the true saturation of the image is by selecting view > proof setup > monitor RGB. Then, as soon as I carry out another task in CS2 - bang, the image reverts back to appearing less saturated. I have tried experimenting with working spaces but can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I had this occur once before and the only way I could resolve it was to re-install CS, but I don't want to have to do this as I am sure there must be a solution.

You might have accidently brushed a key stroke which changes this...
Have you looked in PREFERENCES?
Else a reinstall would have to be done, if only to confirm it fixes
the issue.. then write off to PC2 tech support asking them

it sounds to me like you do have colour setting issues...
I use Nikon Capture 4 also, and have found that by saving pics without the embedded colour profile (nikon rgb) and then opening the tiffs in photoshop that the colour is spot on (without proof colours selected).
Basically it sounds like you currently have your working area to set to Adobe RGB and your proof colours setting at 'Windows RGB'...
This does produce slightly desaturated colours as it is producing you sRGB images, as opposed to Adobe RGB (which are more punchy and brighter).
Don't quote me on this, but i don't think you need to 'proof colour' preview your images, unless you are sending for CMYK printing or you are putting on the web.
What has worked for me is to change your colour management policy to 'RGB: convert to working space' so that all your images are using one colour space (which is Adobe RGB). And if you save with the colour ICC profile, your pictures 'should' print out the way they are in photoshop.
Its worth also checking your monitors colour space settings and Nikon Capture 4's colour settings...
hope that helps
