Is it just me being in a narky mood or what? Just had an email (I get lots of phone calls as well for same thing) from a woman in Bury about 15mins away from me. Telling me how wonderful her photography is, she loves my stuff and tries to emulate the style and can she come and work for free at my studio for a few months to gain experience before she sets her own business up!!!! Go on how would you react to that?????? Is it just me being miserable but i just think would you phone a chef up and say ' love your speciality dish can i come and see how you make it for when i set up a restaraunt down the street from you!!! Or is it just PMT!!!!! :russian_r

It must be PMT:whistle3:

But for both of us, it must be the silly season & we must have it on our signs outside.

PHOTO COPYING SERVICE FREE TO ALL UP & COMING PHOTOGRAPHERS

ONLY IF YOUR BUSINESS IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO PUT ME OUT ON THE STREET AFTER YOU LEARN ALL THAT I KNOW

I AM STARTING TO GET PI..ED OFF

WITH ALL THIS

What is about our profession that everybody that comes into feels they have a right to not learn as we had to

Sorry all but those of us that have been around for a long time didn't start like this

Hope you have calmed down LTJ , just think like all the comments to me you must be the best to have all these ......s trying this on

Nobody has asked me either Martin, I like to think that realise that some of us just can't be emulated. Unfortunately, I know that in my case at least, people know that I am just not approachable. I'm lean mean and won't take any *$%£ from any upstart. Lydia and Alan, you have my sympathy because I know from my wife that it is hard to front up to such people if you are not enough of a bas_*(& whereas I don't mind upsetting peole. I'm not proud of it - I'm just that way. Tell them to speak to your agent and give them my number.

I just cant believe they cant see how cheeky it is. I think its because photography is a hobby for so many people that maybe they dont see that for us its a business not just fun. I dont mind helping people for instance Kirsty contacted me to ask if she could come out on a wedding to see if photography was something she wanted to carry on with at University and she came ou a couple of times but to actually say can they come to gain some experience before they set up their own business is just beyond me!!! oh well - having a studio is not as easy and fun as people may think its a lot of hard work and pressure with all sorts of things its not just takin the photographs its paper work stafff problems VAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
weird customers screeming kids screeming adults when they see the bill!!! Im lucky really but it is hard work :rain:

Just tell her....

It's an expensive business....

If you go in business against me you'll won't survive...

And perhaps she should move...

Italy perhaps...

There is one consolation, most of the hobbists who try to become pro's fail because they think it's only photography and forget/don't know the selling, how to cost, book keeping etc. It's a dam site harder than many think.
I'm not sure how I'd deal with LTJ's lady, maybe offer her a course of instruction at an inflated rate,or tell her to go play on the motorway(or words to that effect) or better, as Alan probally will have to do, just ignore her.

what kind of example are you setting Mr Moderator!!!! I was sacked for you!! Sometimes get bogged down with the whole thing - its alot of work and pressure i have three kids 16 14 and 5 and its easy to get wrapped up in the business and forget about real life. No point worrying tho just gotta do your best. I am very close to my kids and they are the best kids in the whole universe so must be doing something right. Its just the balance thing isnt it beth came home thursday asking can she go on a skiing holday £600 I am lucky i can say fine her dad doesnt pay me a peny i totally look after them and im very proud of it but its a pressure so which is more important? DEEP THIS OR WHAT!!! :icon_nono

I would be a tad annoyed to i think. You've spent all your hard work and money and effort in setting up your own studio & then to have her presume that she can come and work for you then go away and set up her own shop.

U sure she isnt that bearphotography stlaker lady that has moved up to edgeworth?!

I always live by the mantra "if you don't ask you don't get" so probably be flattered but decline her kind offer.

In Alans case it was a clear case of sabbotage and stealing his customers so I would be all out at war with that person.

The previous post was quite right - you can be the best photographer in the world but if you have no business sense you will be out of business in no time.

Very true- when i *crosses fingers* set up on my own in the future- i might get my sister to do my acocunts and help me- shes going to be an accountant or something to do with money anyway! So might as well use the family connection!
