I have a dual screen set-up with Dell flat screens. (1703). The 3 year warranty expired in Feb this year !
This evening - the screen went blank. The power light stayed on green. If I turn it off and back on again - the picture appears for about half a second - much darker than usual. Then it goes black.
The screen is the analog monitor off the Radeon 9600 card.
I swapped the monitor from my wife's Dell in it's place and it works fine - so I think it's the monitor itsself that's duff.
Any idea what I might be able to do to analyse the problem further
Any advice welcome - a new one is under £200 delivered - so I might just bite the bullet.
Cheers

Isn't that just typical! I'm sure manufacturers put something into their machines that is timed to bugger things up straight after the warranty runs out.:(x
Not sure about your specific problem but my old one was doing similar and turned out to be a overheating issue.Hoovered out all the vents, turned it upside down and gave it a shake etc, but didn't help.
Luckily my warranty wasn't out so got replacement within 3 days frrom samsung ;)c

This does happen quite often, if you look realy closely when its dark you will notice the faintest outline of the image that should be on the screen, This is caused by the backlight bl;owing (i bleieve the dell Dell f1703 range use fluresant(sp) tubes x2. This is inevitable with all tft screens usually the life expectancy og the backlights out lives the monitors life though....... You can get the lights repaired this will cost around £40 but your TFT is quite old I suggest you get a new 1 imho.
but the fact you say it powers on for a couple seconds is indivtive of a faulty/ dusty tranformer inside the unit ... Buy a can of compressed co2 / air (any good pc shop) and blast the vents down. if this doesnt work u havnt weasted your money as compred co2 is great for cleaning those pesky bicky crums from your kb also!
ps I appologise for the spelling, had to tpye this up super fast as busy at work :( )

Thanks for the tip - I've a can of air somewhere - will give it a blast - like you say nothing to lose. I'd guessed it was probably a "new job" - oh well
