I use my Metz on auto. I don't bother dedicating it..works great:crazy:

I'd check with Nikon, some non OEM guns can have the wrong voltages and cause damage. I use a metz 40 with a D200 and no probs but it's worth a phone call. The age of the gun can have a bearing.
