Good Morning all!
Question. I'm sending pictures in to Mpix for printing and their site says that dpi should be 250 min, when looking at my properties mine are 300dpi. Also for say a wallets they say that min res should be 150 x 250, well when I again look at my properties I show 1288 x1936 (Pixels) is this the same as resolution? Also is it the same for digital as film? What should standard resolution/ pixels be to ge the best print? Please advise.
Thanks

your 300dpi is perfect, if they are asking for a minimum of 250 then ur ok with that.

as for the wallet stuff, im kinda lost there, either take ur image, goto image resize and change the resolution in there to the size required at 300dpi ??

Thanks Barry-
I couldnt figure it out either, I sent a picture in at 300dpi and they said the resolution was very poor quality... I'm assuming that the resolution is the same as the dpi?!

no its not as far as i know the dpi is how many pixels per inch there is in an image, so for instance we use 300 generally for printing.

What software and cam do you have for starters, if it is photoshop your using, then open your image, find the crop button then in the box at top put say 8 in by 6 in at 300dpi, this would produce a good quality print image at a 6x4 (standard size), if u goto the view tab then view print size it will show u roughly what ur image looks like, if u goto actual pixels, the monitor can only show you 72 dpi so it will stretch out the image making it look huge on screen. the actual pixel size

Hopefully someone else might guide you, this is one of these things i never got my head around properly but found the way and use it basically.

On screen (and in file) the picture is made up of pixels. Screens typically display images at about 72 pixels per inch (PPI) and that's why it's good to save things for web display at that resolution. Printers make pictures by putting down dots of ink. The most used resolution for printing is 300 dots per inch (DPI) - personally, I don't notice any loss in quality by going down to 240 DPI.

Let me know if you want to know more or I haven't answered your Q?

Chris and barry are right most printing is done @ 300dpi all wet process generally use this setting (silver halide) If you are using an inkjet a higher dpi may produce better results. If you are still having quality issues @ 300 dpi then check the physical size of the file it may be too small.

If you let me know how you are processing your files from when they are captured I might be able to shed more light on this for you.
