If you want to do a tutorial and want to show what you have done on your computer then download this free software and it will allow you to grab your screen.

<Alt> Printscreen keys will copy the currently active window so you can paste it into your graphics program (or word or whatever).

Print Screen on it's own will do the whole desktop (again in XP)

sometimes useful

I am with England1965 on this one. I have used the <pintscreen> functions for many years, and found no particular advantage from the screengrabpro utility. Can't teach an old dog......etc :D

By the way, why England 1965 ?....all we ever hear about up here is England 1966 :D :D

:o :o :o Oooops, just re-read the post and noticed the poster is Engand1965....just forget what I was rabbiting on about :o :o :o

Paint Shop Pro has screen/area grab....

Talking of which...

I sometimes get better "smaller images" screen grabbing
a zoomed version of the image I'm working on in the paint
program... Resizing sometimes doesn't work right..

Pixels are edgy.... Taking a screen shot of the image
zoomed out works better in some cases..

Hi Mark,
I've been using MWSnap for screen grabs which, while good, is time consuming so I gave the above a go.
Using either <Alt>Printscreen or Printscreen only I copy the whole of the desktop. What am I doing wrong? http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/redface.gif

Hi Tony,
I think that <Alt> and Printscreen only work if there is an active window open
Select the window you want to copy (so it's title bar is dark blue) and then <alt> and printscreen and it SHOULD just copy that window into the clipboard.

Hope that helps!?

Mark

Printscreen copies the entire screen area, including all open windows.

Alt printscreen only copies the current active window.

If you only have a single full screen window open then both methods give the same output.

Here is an example of how it works for me

Ah that explains a lot Dennis. I usually want to grab an image only so this will not do that so I'll have to stick with MWScreen.
This methos will be useful when playing with the book I'm trying to write.

Mostly I use right click options to copy an image from a document or webpage, and printscreen for general screen dumps where I perhaps want to show other elements, such as drop-down menus etc for explaining a technique

I use 'screen grabber' which lets you save the image or copy it to the clipboard.

I use the print screen key a lot. I then open up Irfanview and paste the screen then crop it to just the part I want. This works well with online pictures as well as dialog boxes to send to tech support for software problems.
