what program are you using? With photoshop, record an action and run it over a whole folder. Or my favourite is the consumer software Acdsee which has a built in batch resize tool.

If using Photoshop, work like this...
1. Open image in PS, duplicate the image and close the original.
2. Now you must get the correct aspect ratio (100x100 is obviously a square)
3. Select the crop tool from the tools palette, and enter values of 1 and 1 into the width and height boxes on the top tab. (Unit of measure not important, leave resolution field blank also).
4. Make the crop and go to "image"....."image size" and put a value of 72 pixels per inch in the bottom window, then 100 pixels into width and 100 pixels into height boxes.
5. Now go to "file"....."save as" and new window appears with options to select file format and destination. Name the image, choose its destination and ensure that "JPEG" option is chosen from the drop down box at the foot of the window.
6. Click "save" and a "JPEG Options" window appears. Hre you can finely adjust the total file size for your needs. Adjust the slider and watch the KB size decrease.
This may sound long-winded, there are more direct ways to do this, but this is a good discipline and will take less than 30 seconds once mastered.
Hope this has solved it for you !?
Enjoy !

The easiest way to crop a perfect square in PS is to hold down the Shift key while selecting your crop. ;)c

Shortcuts are great Ray, but they tend to come a little later on in the learning process ! Learning how to determine any given size with the crop tool is a fairly important thing to understand first.
