Hi Phil, I cannot comment on Canon gear, as I have no experience with it, but what I will say is you would need the IS because it is a slow lens, personally I would prefer a faster lens, but I'm sure some Canon user's on here will help you out, Chaz :)

Hi Phil

I think it is a good lens. Canon quality. The new price is £360 to £370. It's advertised as new so it's £30 to £40 cheaper.

Hi guys thanks for your views, i settled for two lens so split the difference and range first one is a Canon EFS 18-55mmf3.5/5.6 IS Image stabilised lens cost £105 and second is a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens cost £139 i hope these do fine, i will post the results,if anyone has opinions on these two lens please share, thanks again

I would agree with Chaz ,another alternativeis to go for a canon fit sigma F2.8 70-200 for around the same cost :) granted not IS but much faster and a good sharp lens.
