Hello. i am planning to get the Canon 40d, with a Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8 IS USM (http://www.testfreaks.com/lenses/canon-ef-70-200mm-f-2-8l-is-usm/). just wondering what the best lenses are for:

1) Sports Photography
2) Portrait Photography
3) Macro Photography

im only a beginner, so im still pretty confused with a lot of things. like the difference between zoom lenses and fix lenses.

for sports i wish to shoot mostly basketball. i'll be going to my first lakers game this year sitting 7th row from the court. which lens would work best with this? i'de also like one that i could shoot concerts with. in both cases, the lighting is extremely dark.

any suggestions?

okay! thanks for any help. =)

A lot of people who shoot inside sports use fixed focal length lenses such as the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM ( or 1.2 if you have the cash ) or the EF 135 f/2 L USM

IS is very good for camera shake, but it won't do much for subject movement. A high shutter speed is always king in that department.

Outside the 70-200 will work well on a 40D it's effectively a 320mm lens at the long end. :acute:
