OK over the past few weeks we have been putting the final touches to the format for the Photography Forum Awards 2008.
I needed to run something past all members first. I have secured a prize this year.
The prize is valued at over £400 !!
The only condition that the award giver gave was this. Everybody who entered the section of the awards would have their email address passed to the company to add to their newsletter list.
You would then be kept informed of their new products etc as if you had signed up on their website. The company is a photography company so it wouldn't be information that is irrelevant to members.
My question is this -
knowing that your email address is going to be passed on if you enter the awards - would it stop you entering them ????
Please vote and then comment here. I will go with the trend. it makes no difference to me either way. I just thought its up to our members to decide.

Hi Martin,
have no objections - carry on - my view abyway is that you can always opt out at a later date if required.
Nice prize though!:ok:

some people might not be happy to have their emails given out, think you need to think long and hard here Martin.

£400 prize is an encouragement to enter, giving up my email address wouldn't bother me in the slightest. What's the worse that can happen? I end up getting even more offers to have my non existent penis enlarged, or find out I've won $250,00000000000000 on the USA lottery. Or.......maybe........I get a newsletter that actually has some useful information and good deals.
Go for it.

I thought the default for receiving emails from a third party or sponsor had to be 'No' these days and that each individual was required to positively express permission for their address to be distributed?
I could be wrong (it has been known once or twice ;)c)
Anyway, personally so long as I can opt to be removed from their mailing list in the event that their products were of no interest to me, I would have no problem.

Ok with me. As Stu said if it is not relevant to me and I can have my e-mail address taken off then no probs.

I personally am against that. Its a reason why i do not enter nothing online, becuase usually signing up for newsletter or whatever opens a can of worms with regards to spam mailing.
I know Dave Ashton offers a print to winner of each week/month photo with no email opt in thing, its the fact he sponsors it seems more than enough.
Just my personal thought.

you could always set up another e mail address like i do to recieve crap and I use for registering online.....aside fromn this site of course :)
we all get spam so ist not to big of an issue from that point of view.
I do feel we need to be more specific on WHAT they will use the addresses for?
Cheers
Andy
