Yes, Choogster. I am not a people person either when it comes to photography, so am tempted to pass. However, this time I will try to have a go. It is good sometimes to step (be pushed?) out of ones comfort zone....but not too far though :D So why not consider this as a little nudge :D

Stemmy

I agree with Dennis Im not a landscape photographer but if it wins Ill have a go.

Hopefully this competition gets you out there taking new stuff and trying things you would probably not do usually.

Have a go Choogster you might surprise yourself.

I dont want to go first!

DennisB
6th December 2005, 11:09 AM
Ok, just to get us going, here is one of mine.

Bear in mind I am not in the same league (or even planet?) as you wedding/portrait photographers.

This was one of those situations where the pose came quite naturally, and the only option was a grab-shot.

Taken with a small compact digital, with on-camera flash. I know I know ! :( .

I liked it, and so did his Mum when we could both stop laughing :)

Oh bless him!! well you know what they say never work with children or animals!!! Im rubbish at captions contests, it takes me ages to think of witty come backs some times so that could be quite amusing!

Your son is the spitting image of you martin!!! Wow! Very cute photos- the pose in the 1st one- aww!

I have very shy family/friends but i will have a go and see what i come up with. I do have a friend who said she would pose if I asked so might just take her up on that. Shall see soon.....ill b bk with images!

Kirsty
6th December 2005, 10:04 PM
i think what martin means by stock images, are just old images that you have stored on your computer. So he wants us to be pro-active & go and take some new photos. Hope helps Renee.

Hey Stemmy, You can go ahead and cut the two girls pic. out of the contest. Or do you I need to go in and cutthem out? On the little boy santa, I used on camera flash, (Gary Fong Dong) lightsphere. No other light but what was in my home. I put the image into photoshop and only used levels and the healing tool to take out some little marks on face. I am no expert in photoshop. That is it! Oh, Kristy any time you want to make a trip over, let me know. I live about 2 hrs. away from Niagra Falls, 5hrs. from NYC.

Stemmy

Post the original colour version and we will post the new version with a walkthrough of how its done.

Renee Marquis
9th December 2005, 08:18 PM
Here is the org. it was in color and I changed into b/w and kept a color. Oh, sorry not the same pic. but very close... it will do. Renee

Kirsty
9th December 2005, 08:47 PM
#1 I opened the image in photoshop cs

#2 I then made a copy of the original (colour) by clicking on the 'Layers' toolbar- where you can see the layers, and dragged the original to a button that looks like a piece of paper with a corner folded over

#3 Next i went to 'Image' and 'Adjustments' - 'Desaturate' (make sure you are working on the background copy)

#4 The you click on the rubber tool and rub out where you want the colour to show up and hey presto there it is!

Hope this helps.
I did the hat and the eyes.

Renee Marquis
9th December 2005, 09:03 PM
Hey I fig. it out! but I forgot to do the bottom part of the hat. I went in photoshop open image copy the background to a new layer. then convert to b.w.
then select magnifying glass and soom in to a 200% enlarged view of the image.
select the eraser tool and adjust the brush size as needed to allow for precise work in the desired area.
Eraser where you want to change.
then go to layer >flatten image Save and close the image.
I will have to try your way... THANKS

Kirsty

These two shots are fantastic, powerful and emotive. For my money they far outweigh the cute ones. Just wish I'd got some as good.

I did not get any real people pics in spain apart from this one. A bit corny and I think it would work better flipped horizonatally but the lettering on the boat would give that away and it's not worth the work involved in altering those letters to fit the flip. http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Paul,

To do what you asked you need to make "Layer Masks" This is a technique I have seen done with 100% success. This technique however is above my talents. A google search should come up with something though!

On the dark band on the boat in the bottom rh corner it says ZAMA/3/04/96

Maybe it's time to reprofile your monitor :D http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
