Any experts on the subject .... seems I can get a nice sigma flashgun with much the same spec as the ttl Olympus ones for a 1/3 of the price.

does anyone here use sigma flashguns or has?

Sigma make fairly decent flashguns. I was gonna get one but then decided to buy a sunpak (and old folks brand from the days of carving images onto rock) which is bloody fantastic. Same price as the sigma roughly. I don't think you'll go far wrong with the sigma but it depends on how you plan to use it. If you want to use it as a master for off cam flash guns I would stay with the camera manufacturer otherwise it should serve you well. Of course, Im no expert on flash guns.

bit of both off cam and on

Off too support my little studio lights and on for lighting up dark rooms a little better than the on board flash!

I would save ya money and buy dedicated guns for your OLympus. :)
