Do any of you wedding photographers use this website to advertise your services?

They have just contacted me stating that advertising my services would cost £299.00 + VAT a year

What other web directories do you use?

Regards

Ok 2 things about this kinda site...

1. Who actually looks at it? (Get stats and PROPER stats not them just saying "we get 2 million hits a year" that means nothing. I get 5 billion hits a year, but you only got my word on that and I am lying.)

2. Where do THEY advertise to get the punters in?

To be honest I've not heard of them nor seen
them in any magazines.

If they are not going the leg work to brinf the punters to that site, all you're doing is giving them loads of money to put your name on a website...

Put yourself in your customers shoes and Google for what they might type in a see what you get. This way you can see where to possibly advertise.

good advice there........... try typing "timbuctoo wedding photographers" and see what google puts up for your area/region........ i have gone with about 3 directories and i get some enquiries but it cost me about £50p/a each one not over £300 !!!...... i have heard of this outfit but cant recall any comments good or bad.

I reckon that they all are much the same despite the promises they give.... there are cheaper than that and they all do the same job

Remeber the net is fickle with surfers getting blitzed with options and never takin any of them any further........ !!! and also a good looking web company can be run from a teenagers bedroom but looks like a global conglomerate on the screen :wave3:

For that kind of money you could probably get a website built with a lot of functions that would be usefull, proffesionally done and still get change

I have used three up to now and I can say that from this one

I have a good amount of work off this site.

I dont believe in paying alot for advertising through other sites.

really weird names..

Yep, I'm listed on quite a few of these now.

Some are free if I have a reciprocal link from my home page - which can help my hit rate.

Some I pay - BUT I have NEVER paid more than £20 +VAT to a site for a listing. Mind you, apart from 2 enquiries in six months ("Please send more info, then delete my name address?") I have never had anything from them. So won't be renewing anytime soon!

The best I have found are those like startingtwogether.co.uk and theweddingguide.co.uk whic both are paper mags (A5 size) and you put an advert in the mag, and get a listing on their website too.

I have paid for an ad in Starting Twogether, and already had a good response, looks like it may have paid for itself within a month.

Starting Twogether are approx £300 for 1/4 page ad in one region for a year
Wedding Guide approx £500 for same, plus chance to get mailing lists and other marketiung info.

These are given away free at Registry Offices, Churches, wedding fairs hotels etc.

£299.00+VAT??? Now that's a serious rip off if u ask me! Unless u can be sure u'll get enough work from them to pay it back, I'd say pass on the offer! Just my 2 pennies worth! ;)c

I probably have saved myself about £2000 so far this year by refusing "offers" like this one.

As for PhotographMyWedding.co.uk I see that they have managed to net quite a few of my local colleagues; they said on the phone to me that they would guarantee to be within sponsored links at the top of Google; with one phrase that they quoted indeed they are, with other keywords or phrases your potential clients may well type in they are nowhere to be seen

Exactly! They call me numerous times too! What a pain in the ass they are! I told them each time that I wasn't interested but they keep calling back! If only they were the only ones!

Next time one of their sales bods rings you ask to be put thru to the Sales or managing director and complain. You probably will not be put thru' but your card will be marked and you won't be bothered again!

Well it worked for me and now I can truthfully say I'm semi-retired and not looking for work they definitely leave me alone so maybe a small porkie is in order.
