Help!

I have a Nikon D60 and am about to treat myself to an SB600 flash unit. Now word has got around the family and i've been volunteered to take some shots at 2 up coming family parties both of which are being held in halls. Any tips would be very greatfully recieved ppllleeaaaasssseeeee.

only point the flash directly at the folk as a last resort......bounce it off the ceiling or walls.. or tape a piece of WHITE card to the flash head (about the size of a table tennis bat) and direct the head vertiaclly about 45 degs.......set the sync speed to about 1/80 of a second to allow some ambient light to record
