So had a play about with a pic in photoshop.
The first one is the original (I hope - not too good at uploading! :) ) with just an 'auto-levels' adjustment.

Hi Waif,
You need to get the original as good as posible before trying any conversions.
The 'auto' anything in PS is like the auto on your camera, it will give an aceptable result in 'normal' conditions. To get the best out of a shot like yours you need 'manual'. With your original open 'levels', you'll see the histogram is well over to the left. Click the arrow in the RGB box and you'll see RED appear. click on the right hand triangle under the histogram and drag it to the left untill it's just touchng the end of the histogram, now do the same for the green and blue channels. Click OK. I also did a slight adjustment using curves to boost the contrast a bit.
The mono is a straight forward B/W using the aged tone in VP.

Thanks Tony :)
The reson I used 'Auto-Levels' was because the result was as near as dammit 'reality'. The colours in the shot look very strange - so green, but the tree is actually in a little copse with very little light and it glows quite eerily.
Your conversions are great - they look quite 'animated'. Cool!

Understand Waif but there are times, IMHO this is one, where reality is not going to give you the best results. Lets face it any photo is a lie to some degree. You've got that strange green effect because the light reaching this shrub has passed thru all the leaves etc and has so become green. Bit like the Bride's white dress picking up the colour of the Bridesmaids dresses.
