View Full Version : Good things come to those who wait.....

Hi guys

just thought I would share my good news.As many of your are painfully aware(lol) Ive been after some lights for a while now.Ive gone from one make to another and never found what I wanted.I thought I had found what I wanted in the lastolite SV8 kit only to find they were rarer than rocking horse poop to get hold of-and then was told of some kits the other day on my looking for....thread....Only to ring up and find they had gone.

well I decided that I was going to bite the bullet and went to Fotosense and resigned myself to getting some interfit lights-which to be honest when I looked at a set before looked like cheapo crap.-but I wanted some lights and so I went.Imagine my surprise when they said......

hold on...we have these.....35 quid cheaper than the stellars and.....only a set of lastolite Lumen8 400 watt strobes, brollies, stands and fancy case for wait for it.......£274.......

do you fancy a set they said.Is the pope German of Austrian descent I said.sooo

I have my lights at long last.Only instead of the 200 watt ones I have the 400 watt ones and am very happy indeed.Just the small problem of the hernia I got getting them into the car and out of the car and up the stairs.

why didnt anyone warn me how flippin HUGE these things are. They look like some of the lasers off the Deathstar and are almost three feet long!!!! think Im going to need a truss to carry them around....

now all I need is a wireless trigger for them,a reflector and a softbox.Unfortunately this set didnt come with a softbox and the brollies arent shoot through....but hey...on the bright side I got a good deal and once I sort out a location to use them Im up and running.

Im still intending to take up the offer of the studio time at my friends to get my experience of studio lights better but dont be surprised if I dont start to bore you with my studio pikkies.

I just want to send a message of thanks to all the people who supported me and believed in me.You guys know who you are and a massive vote of thanks to you guys.

Hi Ben

thank you very much.Im going to see if I can get a softbox for the lights asap.Does anyone know if you can use a cheaper softbox for the latolites or how much a cheap shoot through brolly would be. the ones in the kit are reflector ones not shoot through....or would a cheap white normal brolly do LOL...

you cant half tell Im a studio wannabe cant you LOL

My brollies are both shoot through and reflected, for shoot through you just take the outer reflector skin off, they are from Calumet.

thanks for letting me know....knowing how thick I am about such things I wouldnt mind guessing that the brollies in the pack are the same.If they arent I wont mind,I'll save my pennies and get one from Calumet as you have said.

Great news Ken and hope you have many happy hours with them.
How about a mobile studio in the camper van then you can go out to your models instead of them coming to you, but be careful the police don't get you for flashing in the street!
Igition on 10-9-8-7 and so on.
Good luck,
Jim.

HI Guys

I would love to have a free studio day at my house but it aint big enough.I have a spare room which is ten foot by ten foot but when stood one of the lights in there it nearly took up all the room LOL..I think a permanat place for a studio is definately the next obstacle that I shall overcome.Ive an idea for that but it might take a while to sort.In the meantime Im going to put feelers out for anyone who wants pikkies doing and do it mobile to start with.I also might ask my friend if I can rent some space in one of her old stables as a studio.she only lives about two miles from me so Im sure we could come to some arrangement.

Im really chuffed to have got such a great deal.Indeed they did have just a few of the sets left and Im glad that they mentioned them to me.I would have asked in the first place but I asumed since they originally didnt appear in their webbie(they only appeared yesterday) that they didnt have any and so I was happy just to get the interfit ones.Im glad I actually got the lights I wanted in the end.Somtimes waiting pays off LOL

HI Stevie

No sorry,I havent got a parcel yet.Mind you,the mail round here is that bad we have the muggers delivering it LOL...Im not saying the postmen are daft round here but I get mail sometimes from a different town.I keep having to take it to the post office and saying....I dont live in flippin Wigan!!!

Once I collared the postie after he posted letters through my letter box for an address three streets away. His excuse was that he had been frightened by a barking dog and it had confused him.God help us if it had actually bit him....he might have wondererd what the animal was.

One time my neighbour knocked on my door with a wet and soggy letter which actually contained my new bank card. She had found it in the garden when she went to go to her car.It wasnt signed and anyone could have used it.(this was in the day before pin numbers)

and dont me started on parcelforce....Paid 24 quid for special delivery to send a printer to Tiny small which was guaranteed to get there before 1 the next day.....and Parcel force delivered it three days later. They hadnt even bothered to take it from their depot. When I rang up I had some numpty with half a brain cell telling me that "Just because you paid for guaranteed 24 hour delivery doesnt mean we guarantee to do it and that I should read the terms and conditions..."

bring on privatization!!!

Kenny,

At last. You are now the proud owner of a set of lights. I bought the same set a few weeks back after a similar recommendation on the forum. They are indeed top quality for the money aren't they?
Even the roller bag is a top piece of kit.
Used mine in anger four times so far and am happy to report they are easily more than powerful enough for a small studio area. Havent needed to take the main light over an eighth power yet for shooting at f11.

You'll do well with these i reckon, and im pleased for you that you now have em.
As you have already discovered though.. They do need a bit of working space!!
