HI guys

dunno if anyone can answer this but here goes.Ive now got my Latolite 400 kit.thats two 400 watt strobes etc.Now then,I also have my SB 600 flash and was wondering if theres any way of using the SB600 to blow out a white background and use the stobes at the same time.I know the SB600 is CLS equipped as is the D300 so how would I do it? at the mo I would have to trigger the strobes by sync cable as I havent got a wireless remote for the lights yet.

I ask this because Ive kind of managed to wangle the possible use of an attic at my nieces house and she and my other niece have asked me if Id do some photos for them.My niece(the one without the house LOL) has always wanted to do modelling and jumped at the chance to do some for me.My other niece,Sarah(the one who is getting married in May) has also asked if Id do some for her to so Im going to have a go.All the walls in the attic are pure white so will make a good backdrop and the floor is wooden flooring.

I found I needed two strobes to white out a background with good symmetry. Only one meant the light fell off toward the side furthest away from the strobe. So - you might be able to use the SB600 directly behind the subject, but I'd be almost more inclined the use the strobes for the background. Depends on the amount of background you'll need to show. Behind a headshot, no big deal, but behind a full length shot you would need more than the SB600 could do...

The strobes would probably work as slaves without the synch cable - so they fire when they sense the SB600 has fired.

use the two lights to blow background, stick the flash in manual so the preflash wont affect the lights and use that as your keylight mate, i do this in studio sometimes. Not sure how nikon system works with the lights and preflash but all i do is turn off ettl, flash into manual and adjust power as i see fit, the lights blow the background and the flash is keylight, means too that where i move around i always have a keylight direct on.

Yup, what Barry says. Or you can have one light at full power facing the background from behind your model. That won't work on full body shots but it should be ok for head and shoulders.
Always use your flash on manual mate :ok:

HI guys

as ever you come up with the goods.I am going to get another head in a few months to join the new kit but will have a go with what I have.Im hoping I can wangle use of the attic on a regular basis but might be a tad awkward if I need to use models as its my niece's house and feel daft just turning up etc.Im going to try and sort something else out long term but thats after I learn my craft with the lights.Once again thanks!
