I was wondering that too. Most of these threads that are being replied too are long dead. Perhaps trying to increase post count so can post a link/

if a member is banned their IP addy is also banned, so unless he has 2 addresses to work from dont think it's him

It might be him - As Most broadband providers in the UK don't give out static IP addresses, so you get a different one every time your broadband modem/hub is restarted.

Hi Guys

sorry I wasnt on line to sort this along with the other mods.Ive only now managed to get a wifi signal cos I am in wales and have been wildcamping with the van(with quite spectacular faliour too.):(x

Chortler is right in saying that if you with a normal BB provider, all you have to do is log on and off and each time you get a new IP addy. However, now I know us mods can also ban people, when Im online-which is most of the time,if anyone spots something and PMs me I will try my best(if one of the other mods isnt already on it) to bin the foul beggers from spamming.

BTW George..sorry I wasnt around to do anything when you sent me the PM.Well done Mick for banning the devil.

it is common practice its a spam bot that gets into forums creates a profile with a website link in it and spams badly spelt replies like "nice to know this good fun for forum" we currently have one in action now called muqtada123.

I had to shut down my old forum because i couldnt keep up with deleting the spam fast enough :P

best way to stop theese is to block the entire indian IP range as india accounts for 90+ % of all forum spam

Crimmy

But what if there is a genuine indian photographer who wants to join

Then make em move to england.... ;)

Put a caveat on signup saying if you living in india please email xxx@xxx.com with your ip address and we will let it through.

Its not just India that contributes the most to forum spam.Loads of it is coming from the former soviet block countries. The Ukraine is rife with spammers and on P4A we have had loads and loads of spammers from there.Myself and Alex(who is a member here too-al1967) have had the devils own time binning them.We had people trying to push child porn etc tec and at one point before we upgraded the forum software if a member joined, even before their membership was activated, the forum software was such that their name appeared as a new member and if anyone clicked on it they could view the details. This was exploited by spammers who put links to the most nastiest sites in their profile. It was only when we totally updated the forum software and reinstalled the database there that we got rid of them. There are now safeguards in place and thank good ness we hardly have any spammers at all.Earlier in the year I was personally binning 80-100 a day.

I dont know how many Martin has to bin but thankfully the ones that do get though(that look genuine) gert picked up very quickly and banned.
