The problem is, they're talking about HDV judging the prices they mentioned. They suck. And, as the lenses aren't the best, and are mostly (well, with the Sony HDV camera) non-interchangable, still nowhere near as versatile as the still camera.

Sure, they can take 25 (or 30 if you're US) frames a second, but apart from lo-rent newsy items, it's not gonna stick.

It's the same thing when Final Cut Pro etc came out to challenge all the high end video editing packages made by Avid. Everyone was up in arms about how easy it was to become an editor now.

The simple solution is that you can give anyone a pencil, but not everyone will be a writer. Sure, some people don't give two-hoots about skill anymore - but they're not the people we want to get work from surely. (I'm including peopel on here as photographers, and me as a video an editor in one lump of we here... urine anaolgy aside, I hope that's ok).

I saw a TV news broadcast the other day taken off a mobile phone. Everyone who saw is knew it sucked, but also knew that was the only way for the day. This idea isn't a threat to the stills photographer, just a different avenue for the people you probably wouldn't want to work for anyway to get around paying for quality work.

And there concludes my Sunday rant.

Night all.
