no experience with PS at all, ever. Need to buy a version and start learning.
I dont want to spend hundreds if I can avoid it, but I do want to get an official cs4 or similar version so I can start understanding it.
elements? extended?
thanks.

Go for the latest/best your budget can stretch to.
Not only will it give you good grounding, there should be fewer file compatibility issues and it will be cheaper to upgrade when the newer versions are released.

ok, thanks.
second question, hopefulyl equally quick;
on ebay - extended is £150-200, the full on version seems to be aroun £350-400. But, on adobe its £600 for full or £935 for extended....
I dont get it, its too different.

I think Extended is the top version?
All it has over 'normal' version is a lot of 3D stuff, which I certainly haven't used.

Hi David
the extended version ads 3D capabilities to the program to interface with illustrator and programs such as 3d studio max and Lightwave. This is because photoshop has excellent texture and skinning options built in so that when someone uses a CGI package such as lightwave,it links seamlessly with the programs to aid in surface design and textures.TBH unless your into CGI and wire frame technology as found in games design etc you wont need the extended functions of the software.
one tip I might give you is if you know someone who is a student, they can get the full version of the master suite for a very tidy price indeed saving hundreds off the price.I myself am going to get myself a student package once I start in September.

thanks. I'm on the search for a student now!
I don't understand the ebay prices though. both ext and full are available from £150-250. are these just dodgy...? a charity is even selling full cs4 fr £230..?

Be careful on ebay as the resellers don't always make it clear what license type it is it may be upgrade or academic version most are on ebay.
If you want cheaper you can sometimes buy older/previous versions and at a lower cost upgrade to the new version I have or just stick with the older version.
You also need to be careful about very cheap software I would be suspicious of a trader with very low prices and a recent registration as a ebay member.
If the trader has a reasonable history you could always ask them to clarify the license.
