OK - the first couple of paragraphs from that Wiki page

"Medium format has traditionally referred to a film format in still photography and the related cameras and equipment that use this film. Generally, the term applies to film and cameras used to produce images larger than the 24 by 36 mm of 135 film, but smaller than the 4"×5" size, which is considered to be large format.
In digital photography, medium format refers either to cameras adapted from medium format film photography uses, or to cameras making use of sensors larger than that of a 35 mm film frame. Often, medium format film cameras can be fitted with digital camera backs, converting them to digital cameras, but some of these digital backs, especially early models, use sensors smaller than a 35 mm film frame. As of 2006, medium format digital photography sensors were available in sizes of up to 36 by 48 mm, with 39 million pixels for use with commonly available professional medium format cameras. Sensors used in special applications such as spy satellites can be even larger, but are not necessarily described as medium format equipment"

If you are happy to work with film medium format is arguably quite inexpensive. A really good camera and lens combo can be bought for a few hundred quid. It's digital backs that cost the real money and you'll see that togs like TinySmall have got round that by shooting film then scanning the negs. He gets wonderful quality that way.

I myself have a couple of Mamiya 645 bodies etc lying in my shed. Every few weeks I remember them and wince - I should be using them really but it is a different type of work...

Anyway - at least you know what it is to argue about with some old fart in the pub.

Your 635 can shoot medium format 6x6cm and 35mm with the adapter.

If you can get it working you will be amazed at the quality you can achieve.

want to have some real fun with medium format? Get a TLR (twin lens reflex) camera - Yashica 124, Mamiya C220 or C330 or Rolleiflex in good working order can be found relatively cheap and they are a great fun to use. The only problem is the availability of the 120 format film, its cost and the cost of processing and printing.
