For those of you who were on the Photoshop course and wanted a copy of the Monitor & Printer Calibration Chart then here it is.

I have zipped it up for easy downloading. The file is 380k.

Just right click and save it to your computer.

Hi Martin

My monitor was way out, so i have adjusted the basic contrast, brightness and red, green and blue settings using custom, that you recommended.

I have also further tweaked the settings in adobe gamma including each individual RGB colours.

I have downloaded the calibration chart and it shows that the colours are slightly over saturated.
Do i just reduce them a touch and send the chart off to the lab as a profile.

Thanks for the chart

regards
Tommy

Yes Tommy I would do exactly that. Forget printing at home. What you need to be able to do is see an image on your pc and when it goes to the lab it comes back looking the same. It takes a few goes to get it right, its also up to each persons personal tastes. Some people like pictures a little warmer than others (me included ). So its just getting your balance right. Have a chat to Mark or Dave at Kodak they will be able to help you.

Ok you can use this chart for a couple of things.

If you want to print images at home then just print the chart and then see what you think of the result. Forget how it looks on your monitor. Just tweak the settings in your printer software to get the image looking as close as you can to a natural shot ie. skin tones and the grayscale bar down the side.

Then once you are happy with the print hold it next to your monitor and adjust the contrast and colour settings so the print matches your monitor. Then you know that what you see on your screen is what you are going to get from your printer.

You can tinker with the Adobe gamma program to fine tume your monitor. You will find this in "Control Panel"

I have followed the instructions on here regarding the calibration chart, but am still producing prints that are extremely dark.

I m using an Epson Stylus Photo R300, with Epson inks printing onto Satin Finish paper, and have pushed the brightness settings as far as the software will allow. I still can't produce the graduted background of the 'people shot', neither is there any contrast between the hair and background - it's just flat black! All the details in the rest of the pictures are lost in black as well.

I know it's not easy without seeing the prints yourself, but if anyone can help point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

I use the R200 and had the same problem. Reset all the tabs to default. I am assuming you are using photoshop. Open a file then hit (print with preview) at the bottom there is a drop down menu. I have the colour handling set to "Let Photoshop Determine the Colours). This made the difference for me.

If it doesnt work repost and i will post all my settings. As our printers are the same ish.
