Firstly thanks for taking the time to read this post and possibly providing me with advice.

I am a novice and need all manner of help but thought i'd start with lighting.

I have a Canon 40D camera with a 17-85mm lens and would like to set up a studio at home.

I am looking for cheaper end of the market lighting for my home studio and open to all suggestions - new and used kit from wherever I can get it.

I have a studio at work but cannot use it due to it being in a police station lol - if required i can update with what the set up is in work

Thanks again

Hi, JJ. I'm not the one to tell you about lighting kits, but I'm sure one of our resident experts will be along shortly. Crime scene guy? Cool!

Have a look at these: http://www.lencarta.com/smartflash-mains-powered-flash/fla0013-smartflash-starter-kit/index.php

This is about as cheap as it gets for the amount of kit they're giving you. Although I haven't used this model, I do use some Lencarta kit and it is VERY high quality stuff. I wouldn't expect these to be any different. A basic kit but just about everything you need to get you started.

That lencarta kit looks pretty cool!! Anything to rival it?

What about the background? Any recommendations?
