In PSE there are several ways to make a selection: marquee tool, magnetic lassoo, magic wand, but the one I use a lot (mostly in fact) enables me to 'paint' a selection (+ and -) - can't find such a tool in PS. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help. Chris

Yep Chris - its called Quick Mask. (My FAVE tool in PS) You just press Q and then paint on your selection - it comes up as a rubylith (sp) mask. Press Q for a second time and there is your selection.
Hope that helps.

Waif, you're a hero - bit quicker next time please - had to wait nearly 5 minutes for a reply! :-)
Delighted that the tool is there - grateful for tips on how to use it - can I do without the pink bit and just have marching ants; also how to I go into negative mode (remove selection).
Thanks again, Waif.

Hmmmmm - to remove the 'marching ants' click 'Control H'.
To remove selection? Do you mean delete it? If so then just hit delete. If you want to select the rest of the picture (and NOT the bit you have already selected) then go to Select and hit 'Select Inverse'.
I'm not sure how to remove the red colour - if you look in Edit>Preferences you might find it there.
