Hello, I thought you may like to take a look at my website - it's a hobby thing, not a business, but you never know.
I had a shock when I put my name and "photographer" into Google - it seems there's a wedding tog in Los Angeles who I share a name with!.

I've put a page of links to the list from "Give me your URL", immaginatively called Links.

Feedback is welcome, but please bear in mind this is my first attempt at anything like this.

On the first day I got 608 hits, and the second 190! I've added a feedback section to try to find out where people are finding the link, as I've failed to find myself on any search engines. Surely this can't be normal?

Nice clean site & some excellent pictures - I see you've used easily.co.uk to build the site - they should be able to provide you with statistics on where hits have come from e.g. I clicked on the link from this site, so you should see photography-forum.org as a provider of hits.

Is the site completely database driven or are you limited to set templates? What I mean is, are the number of pictures per page fixed & how easy is it to change them?

Finding your site referenced in search engines is a whole black art - you need to ensure that your home page has what are called meta-data tags in it, your hosting provider should be able to advise - the fundamental problem in promoting any site is that you are completing with 1,000,001 others!

BTW one of your links is broken - on your links page you have :http://www.pascalerphotography.com/togslinks.htm which doesn't work too many ":"s

I went the other route (as an ex programmer) and wrote my own site from scratch, but then I got bored and never really finished it - one day when I'm retired with some spare hours, I'll make it sparkle!!

Cheers
Ian

I basically bought a "build you own site" from my broadband supplier. Krazy Pengwin gave me some great advice on how to create thumbnails which could pop up into larger images, but I was unable to use this feature - entirely my own lack of skills, not the advice I received.

As far a numbers of pictures goes, I loaded up a bunch into the gallery provided, then posted them into the site - really easy to change images. I don't know how many I can fit on, I thought I'd stick to my favourites to start with.

There a set templates, I don't think there's a lot of flexibility. This seemed to be the most flexible standard format.

Thanks for letting me know about the broken link - I've no doubt added some extra s's when swearing and spitting at the computer.

Thanks everone for their positive responses to this site - as an amateur I know I'm effectively trying to get into the same market as people who do this for real, so could just be a hindrance.

I've promised my wife that if this thing doesn't return the investment I won't renew it, so time will tell.

For a hobby website, I think it's look "clean" and it's easy to naviguate. Navigation is very important to me cos if I get lost on a website I just leave it at once and don't come back. I think u did a great job Robbie. :) If u need any help regarding basic HTML, I'd be happy to help. :)
