Don't laugh that German discount store has some cracking computer offers this Thursday.

Need a stand-a-lone backup drive? 320 gig for just under £100, it's on my shopping list.
Lots of others. They are usually branded Medion and are superb value for money. I've one of their graphics tablets, don't know how I managed without it. A Medion 19" CRT I bought for £165 has just been replaced with an Acer LCD, not 'cos it's failed after 5 years 'cos it ain't but I need the space.

You do have to get there early as these bargains soon go.

nice Tony,

on the aldi theme, not sure if any good but they are selling a twin set of halogen lights on a stand for 11 quid, might be handy for studio style continuos lighting (although they get hot as i got a pair or 500wat halogens on stand last year).

even the tripod stands are worth the cost along, solid, up to 7 feet im sure

Well spotted Tony, we purchased a Medion External Hardrive (120GB) about 2/3 years ago for about the same price, it has been a great work horse and have never had any problems with it at all, dead simple to install too.

They have such diverse weekly bargains I signed up for their e-mail flyer ages ago. They do extra special specials on a Sunday.
It's always good value for money.

good to know the h/drive is easy to install. Last year in the Azores we tried attaching a well known brand to my brother in laws MAC, what a nightmare

Hi Tony..... On your advice I scrambled down to ALDI's yesterday.. Unfortunately they had run out. Had to leave my name and address in order for them to contact me. Ended up down at PC world today and managed to get a Freecom 320 GB External HD for £109.99. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

I got one of the Medion drives, very good too. Installed and in use in under 5 minutes; a very differnt story to last year when my Brother -in-law and I tried to get a Maxtor unit to work with his MAC.

Hi Tony.

the maxtor drives i think are a big issue, i have one in my pc (was wifes), my friend has one, and a person whom i sort their computer has one, all the 80 gig ones. We all seem to have the same trouble that when the hardrive gets so full, the computer crashes with the blue screen of death, " an unmountable boot volume" that seems unrepairable, and only a format sorts, its happend 4 times on this machine (granted whilst wife had it), twice on my pals machine, and just a couple of weeks ago the guy was at my door with his pc and the same problem.

Hi Barry,
I don't know the brand of drive in my main machine but I've made it a golden rule, yes me working to a rule, to keep as little as possible on the hard drive. Only WIP and programmes. Finished work and images etc are kept on two external drives and backup disks. I'm on my fourth PC base unit and third laptop but have never had a blue screen in the ten years or more I've been using them.
The MAC problem was due to the fact my b-i-l had kept years of work, mainly scientific papers, on his hard drives and one MAC was running OS IX and the other OS X, even after partitioning the Maxtor it would not take the earlier OS work.

ahh gotcha, yeah i work the same way, ive got a second drive that i store images, business forms, image software on, and try to keep my maxtor main drive empty, i defrag once a week, run a couple of other proggys on it to ensure intergrity etc and so far so good (touches wood)
