Not that knowledgable with PCs, but I have noticed that the old girl is running a little slow when using CS2 or especially BibblePro.

I have 1Gb DDR RAM and a powerful processor but it really struggled when I was on the net the other day and a warning popped up that I was running out of memory?

I used the task manager to check the performance and it showed: Physical memory (k) TOTAL 1047024, AVAILABLE 634112, SYSTEM CACHE 527672.

That is with no programmes running (to my knowledge) except Norton security. Does this mean that on tickover the computer is using almost half of the memory?

How long has the PC been running slow like this? If it is a recent thing, check that the Windows Update is not performing an update, that can (even though MS say it doesn't) slow things down. Also check to see if Norton is performing an update and/or a scheduled scan. Finally, Photoshop CS also performs an auto-update.

I would then also recommend running the Cleanup Wizard (Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools-Disk Cleanup), followed by the defragmentation program (Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools-Disk Defragmenter).

Also, have you installed any new programs recently that may be working in the background?

Another tip i do regularly, is go into task manager and close down services that are running that you dont need. Also what is your CS scatch disk set as, if you have a spare drive plugged in, then set the scratch disks to this. cs >>Preferences. Also worthwhile maybe increasing your page file in windows.
