Can I use photoshop CS to open canon 450d raw file in anyway?

This is the only version I have from when I used it with work a few years ago - I dont think I can do it from what ive read so whats the best method to go?

Not installed the software that comes with the 450d but I understand I can use it to convert to tiff and then open/edit in photoshop - would I lose any image quality by doing this way?

Ive not installed the 450 software yet as I dont normally like to whack any old software onto the computer etc etc

I think , and stand to be corrected, that if you update CS it will then be able to open Canon Raw files .

which version of CS, you may need to have a look at the Adobe web site to see if they have releases an update for your camera.

I know I could with my old 20D and CS2 but when I upgraded to the 50D I couldnt and because there were newer versions of CS available Adobe wont release updates for newer cameras.

Although I do have CS4 these days I do most of my 50D image pre-proccessing in Lightroom 2 that gives the option to open into CS, even CS2.

the canon software is pretty good dont know what you get with the 450 but Zoom browser and DPP are good if you cant open the file in PS check adobe for update and if that dont work you can use you can use Adobe DNG .

look at this thread http://www.photography-forum.org/showthread.php?t=39059

Yes, but not directly. Use the current Adobe DNG converter then use the DNG in PS CS.

Have downloaded the adobe convertor and converted to dng 2.4 format which say ok with photoshop CS.

However, cs still wont open them - will have to convert to tif first I think using bundled package, will let you know how I go, thanks for advice!

You need to use ACR2.4 (part of PS CS) to open the DNG - ACR will then allow you to open into PS.

Here's a good guide:

Brilliant sorted! - Thanks

Should I adjust the raw part first and then do tweaking in ps or does it not matter?

I would do what tweaks you want if possible in acr before opening in PS

A bit late now, but you CAN open Canon 450D RAW directly in CS3 and CS4.

In CS3 you will need to go to the Adobe website here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3896

and get the later plugin.

CS4 already opens 450D files.
