A quick hello from me, Steve Kitcher.

I?ve just joined after receiving an Email introducing the forum, I wouldn?t bother looking normally, but it sounded like a useful one to be involved with & it?s already added to my favourites.

I?m a part time photographer covering a lot of equestrian events in the central southern area. Canon digital through & through for me, my old film gear, Canon & Bronica haven?t come out of the bag for a long time.

There?s always lots to learn, so I?ll keep a close eye on the site. I run several sites myself & use Photoshop & Dreamweaver almost daily, so if I can help out I will.

My own site contains lots of event shots, good bad & indifferent. Everything goes online straight after an event; I have learnt not to be too picky as you would be surprised what sells so don?t be too harsh!

We also produce & sell Giclee prints online & have our own framing workshop if this is of interest to anyone.

My site http://www.Event-Images.co.uk
My wife?s (artist)site http://www.ckart.co.uk
Fine art prints http://www.forestimages.co.uk
An equestrian information site which I run & which gets me most of my event work http://www.nfed.co.uk

Hi from Lincoln-
Looks like you have found a nice niche... I made the mistake of doing everything when I went "pro" but when I actually focussed on a narrower market I made more money for less effort, what do you think?

Thanks

I think it is better to concentrate on & get to know one market if you can. There are a lot of horses & equestrian events in our area, so it's just a case of coming up with the goods, being efficient & not getting in the way. We offer prints on the day & normally have all the photos online the same evening, which works well. It can be a hard days work, but enjoyable & very rewarding when it goes well.

Hi Steve - nice website.

I think you are exactly right to concentrate on one section of the business.

You say you print on site. I do quite a few "Society Balls" and used to print & Post all the images after the event. Just purchased one of the KODAK 1400 DYE SUB printers. What a printer!!!!! Top quality prints - laminated straight out of the box. Using this now asaves sooo much time.

speak soon

Thanks, I'll certainly look into that.

I'm currently using a Canon I990 (7 colour) with Ilford Galerie paper. After years of Epson printers, I'm really impressed with the speed, quality & reliability of the Canon & the paper is by far the best I've found. It looks & feels like a photo & comes out of the printer dry, other papers can take a while to dry, which is a real pain when there is a queue of customers & the pictures have to be trimmed & slipped into mounts.

At home we also use an Epson Pro 5500 (A3+) printer for fine art prints, It is fantastic for reproducing artwork, but I've done a few photos & they are just not good enough with the pigment based inks.
