By far the best quality scans that you can achieve yourself will come from a decent dedicated film scanner. There are some on the market that can automatically scan a tray of around 6 slides one at a time.

A cheaper alternative may be to look out for a slide copying lens. They soemtimes crop up on eBay.

These are, basically a tube with a lens in the middle that fits the lens mount on your D-SLR. The slide is held at the end of the tube, a diffused light source is directed at the slide and the shutter is pressed.

Failing that, send them off to one of the pro labs. It'll be more expensive but will save you an awful lot of time!

A Scanner is the best choice if you have one, I have an Epson 3170 scanner, it will scan multiple 35mm photos or negatives and even APS. Thats how I deal with my old photos/negs etc

Depends upon how many slides you want to copy and if it will be an ongoing thing.
A good scanner, there is no point in getting anything else, will set you back at least £400, more like £ 550/650 for a really good one, you can get a lot of slides profesionally scanned for that.

Where are you from saxokid ?

If your in the uk I can recommend David Calvert for scanning to cd from slide the results were excellent.

I still always take a film camera with me :-)

I will post an typical example that was scanned.

There is a potential problem with using these devices if you are using a digital camera with less than FF sensor. The copiers are generally designed to fit a 35mm slide at 1:1 when fully zoomed out. If you are using a camera with a 'cropped' sensor you may not be able to get the full slide displayed.
