So how exactly do you get these to do what you want them to?

I've tried a few times but never, ever got the result I was after. Typically when I need a decent sky over a landscape I get either a sky thats darker at the bottom or the side or its transparent.

AAAAAhhhhh its driving me nuts and need help please!

have u tried duplicating your original image as another layer, then add the grad filter to that copy, then use the layers opacity or fill slider to blend the two of them. then merge both layers when happy.

Alternatively, there is an excellent filter action set available for from TLR. With PS ones you can alter the angle at which the graduation is applied - it's like a dial with a number to the right of it (not in fron of me at the moment). There are several other controls as well which control the graduation. Cheers Chris

make a new layer, go into quick mask and use the graduation tool, set to forground to tranparent, run it from top to bottom, holding down shift to make sutr you have it striaght, go back to normal view and invert the selection . save this selection. Then go to the original layer, load the selection, and you now have a graduated mask to adjust the sky as you see fit
