Is a little 'people light' - Martin / Lydia - make it compulsary for all people who take your course to sign up here !!!

In fact, ensure they can only sign up for the course from here ... :)

A valid point but it had to start somewhere. How would you suggest I get more people onto the forum?

Everybody who goes on the course is told about the forum. If they take up that opportunity that is up to them. I am going to do a bit of advertising for it. But its only been properly up and running for a few weeks so hopefully people will join in the future.

Please bear with us Craig you have alot to offer and hopefully there will be plenty of people to offer it to soon.

Have you viewed PICTAGE Forum... they post under the same post instead of making new threads all the time as people are doing here...
Just a thought... It is way hard to reopen new threads all the time... people should keep replies under the same thread instead of making new ones all the time... Just a thought

I know what you mean Renee but ive seen those forums and some threads can be hundreds of pages long. I thought it was nice to deal with each thread and themn move on - you can always re-comment on something later on.

Just a thought.... I have seen some threads already were they are comment on that one and adding to it...
But I am having fun reading and sharing... Thanks

Compared to some forums this navigation is fairly instinctive. It's certainly one of the easiest to read, have a look at the Leica forum and you'll see what I mean.
The atmosphere is good, there are no impolite nutters. Strong points of view, yes, but given with respect to others. There's no personal slanging matches, lets keep it that way.
A pat on the back to Martin for starting this, I'm really enjoying it; just wish a few more would make active contributions.

I guess I was a little use to the News@pictage.com it is very much like this one, set up the same way and everything. Most of the photographers are all from CA, USA Not that I want to send any one that way. I like going to both and checking out what everyone is talking about. I would like to see a community forum where we can all go for open chats.
Justfood for thought.....

Hi ya....

in some of the othe boards I post on there's a Search option
which lists posts since your last visit....

Or Recent posts in the last X amount of days..

Is there an option like that here? I can't find it..

George

If you hit the button at the top saying "New Posts" that gives you a list of all the posts you havent read yet. As for a search time I will look into it - ive done a wedding today and kids discos tonight so bear with me.

Martin only set up this forum about two months ago and has now over 100 members. I think hes done fantastic with it. He is running a busy business has two small children and a nutty female friend photographer who he is always ready to help out. What we should all do is post the site to all our email buddies and correspondance and do abit of work for him. I cant believe the quality of the images that have been posted so i definately think we can all learn alot and get inspired again. I def need that doing portrait sittings on the hour every hour tends to lose the enthusiasm photography once brought but even I am getting it back!! So thankyou Martin xx

A forum is only as good as its members :)

But the more people the merrier so if everybody can tell as many as they can we can only get better.

Hi Stemmy,

You asked how we could bring more people to the forum.

I think a for sale section , to sell our unwanted camera equipment may be useful ?

Renee Marquis

I would like to suggest a chat room, so we could chat live to each others?
What does everyone think of that?

Stemmy
9th December 2005, 02:10 PM
Will try to do both.
Just been thinking more about a chat room. The idea of the forum is for people to discuss their experiences, they are then there for other people to read and learn from. If everything is going to be discussed in a chat room then deleted the forum is not doing what it is designed to do. i agree a chat room might be nice but it might have to be limited to non photography chat.

What do you think?

Renee Marquis

That would be fine, we could chat about many other subject and get to know each other... if we have suggestions we could send to forum for an open dis. about that forum? just a thought!

This forum seems to be suffering as do most of the others, a lot of viewers but few contributors: please the silent majority become more vocal. http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thankfully it's not like one well known forum which is devoted to very pally chat about gear and when they are all going to meet again.
I'm all for get togethers but not in the 'closed shop' atmosphere that the other lot generate.

Seems to be the way with most forums Tony.

We just have to get more and more people here so the small percentage of contributors is a lerger number.

Any suggestions - the numbers are still growing. We are nearly 150 now in about 2 months. Not bad.

Just checked back on the 17th of November the forum had less than 30 members  120 new members in four weeks.

Im still on the case.

Hi Martin,
I don't know the answer to this, it's the same with any group. I'm now more involved with talking to camera clubs, community courses and workshops and there is always 90% who contribute very little but who hopefully gain a lot.
One thing I sometimes do is try to be controversal, those who know me will tell you I'll argue blacks white just for the fun of it! http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Just an idea... Not everyone uses Photoshop, could the "Photoshop Chat" area be renamed to "Digital Art Tips" or something like that?

Covering all software?
