Hi Tony
I have been playing around with it this afternoon. I guess I will have to give it some time but I think I prefer Rawshooter. I just seem to like the lay out of it and it also seems to me that I have better control over it.

Does lightroom not include Rawshooter now? Adobe aquired it a few weeks ago.

Yes I think you are right Tony. I use the old one you could have as a free download. Works for me. Did you enjoy the race. Alonso did not look a happy bunny.

Been playing with beta4 and it's a vast improvement on the 3. Very good for digiart fiddling as well as straight manipulation. I've posted a digiart effort in the art board. Yet to try a RAW conversion there is so much to learn in this. I understand the print engine is very good, something else to try.

It's not often I rave over software but this is fantastic, even the mono conversions look good. I'm still finding my around this, maybe will have something to share tomorrow.
When lightroom first came out I, like a lot of others, dismissed it as too slow and clunky but that's all changed.
Oh yes it works on MACs too.

Tony,
I have avoided LR owing to previous comments on this forum and the Adobe LR forums. I'm facinated by this product, but don't understand what it's really about. Grateful if you could help me out with this. I'm loathe to download Beta 4 because I'm concerned that it may mess-up my other stuff - namely Bridge and PSCS2. What does it do (or do so much better than) that Bridge and PS can't? Suprisingly I can't find the answer to this question anywhere - including the Adobe website and the LR forums. I assume it takes something pretty amazing to get you excited!! It's taken me ages to sort out my workflow (including image storage and organisation) and althgough it's not ideal it's there and I'm worried about confusing myself by looking at another product - especially one that's still in Beta. A while ago I thought that the one thing (probably naive) that's missing from my armoury is some basic version control/workflow - just simple stuff for me at home, but I note that this is not included in B4.
Anyway, really interested in your views on what LR is and what it does that Bridge/PS doesn't.
Many thanks.

Basically you've the facility to store, in a logical order, your shoots, you can process them, print them and produce web slide shows all in one place.
The RAW processor is great. I've yet to try the printing engine but a very fussy mate is raving over it. I shall still use my twin disc/remote hard drive storage for archival images but for wip this very convienient. It's all about improving your work flow. Have a look at this 20 min video tutorial.

It's not affected Bridge or PS CS2.

Watched tye film, downloaded the Beta, imported a few photo libraries. Wow - I can now predict where I'll be spending a bit chunk of the foreseeable future. It's Bridge, ACR, Bibble, ProShow and a bit of PS2 all thrown in together. The workflow from Library through Develop, Slideshow, Print to Web is so clever and intuitive. A bit sluggish and I have a dual core/2Gb machine, but that will be fixed. Just so many sliders and buttons to play with......

Just been finding my way around the print engine, fantastic. You can control your printer directly from Lightroom admitedly with different looking adjustments but they are logical . For contact sheets it's very flexible. Again it's all about saving time in your workflow.
So far I've not found any bugs which considering this is a beta version is surprising.
RAW conversions are excelent, again you need to approach this with an open mind and take a bit of time finding your way around the settings. I find it far quicker and more logical than Bibble or Nikon Capture.
I'm surprised Chris finds it sluggish, I'm using a Pentium 4 3GHz with 1gig RAM and it's quick.

I quite like this program. For Fuji RAW files it still is not quite as good as the HSV2 software but LR is amazingly fast compared to it. I might be tempted to buy the full version when it is finally released as long as it isn't too OTT for price. One thing that would be better is if they could incorporate Extensis Portfolio DAM in some way then it would be superior.

Tony, I should have been more careful about using the term 'sluggish'. It's not at all, I think I formed that thought prematurely whilst it was building it's first library cache at the same time that I was impatiently trying to play with it. I too have played with the print engine. It appears amazing - really great. I could not get it to display a no border print, but then I didn't really know what I was doing. It's a shame the export dialogue box doesn't give an indication of file size? Chris

agree why not send this feedback to Adobe? after all that's what a public beta version is for.

I'll do that. I've already done a search on the Adobe threads and couldn't find a reference. Cheers Chris.
