Over the years I have used many AV software.. over the last 2-3 years I have had Norton Internet Secuirty and also McAfee.. I started to have problems with Norton and eventually got rid and put on McAfee..
All was well with McAfee until the subscription was to expire, then McAfee started to play up like stopping me accessing the internet etc..
Im now looking to update my computers and laptop so its no cheap affair as I have 3 desktops and 1 laptop to pay for.
So wondering what av and malware products you use?
Cheers

AV - Avast Antivirus www.avast.com (http://www.avast.com/)- can't recommend it highly enough - it's free for home use, but in my company we use it commercialy and replace Sophos with it.
Malware - Try Ewido (http://www.ewido.net/en/) and Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoft.com
Also would not be without HiJackThis from Merijn http://www.merijn.org (http://www.merijn.org/index.php)
Hope these help - Ian

AVG free edition, for the past couple of years, its fantastic, get choice to heal a virus or move to a vault for safe keeping out ur system, (or delete). Updates daily nearly, cant fault it one little bit.
ALthough i have a ruddy virus on here now that i cant find, but avg keeps locking up for me.

I take it you only use AVG for antivirus David rather than the full suite ?

I use CA Anti virus (available on the microsoft website) which is free for a year and zone alarm for a firewall. I have had CA on all four of my compters for 18 months and cant recall any problems. :woot:

Norton has a certain reputation with me at home and with the techies at work - let's just say we all avoid it like the p l a g u e.
I used to use Zone Alarm Pro but I got fed up with it nagging me all the time and it caused me some problems with a couple of applications and a Storage Area Network device so I dropped it.
I now use Avast (www.avast.com (http://www.avast.com)) and it works well for me. I also use the Windows firewall even though I'm behind a NAT router. I have 3 other PCs on the network and they all use Avast and we've caught a couple of viruses on emails but otherwise everything is ticking over nicely and it updates the program and signature files automatically - there's even a "virus database has been updated" audio message that sometimes comes when you least expect it :Dm . I'd recommend giving it a go - there is a free version for home users.
If Avast isn't enough for you on its own then try adding Spybot to your arsenal. Lavasoft's Ad-aware is another piece of software worth looking at. IIRC both have free versions for home users.
Finally, BHO Demon for those tricky "Browser" Helper apps.
Finally, Finally you might like to look at Microsoft's own "Windows Defender" don't know if it's still in beta but it looked promising when I tried it out a few months back.
Test your security here - grc.com (no www.) (http://www.)) using "ShieldsUp", a sure way to amuse yourself for half an hour and get a warm glow when you get all green lights :)
BTW, I'm not really a security junkie ;)c

I use AVG free anti-virus (at home) and Spybot Search And Destroy.
I've had {knocking on wood, crossing fingers} no virus or spybot trouble ever that I know of.

Im on BT as well, but have been having connection resets for the last 8 weeks, BT are not on the ball, after 15 years in the communcations market there is one person they cant give there bull to and thats me.. They tried to imply that it must be my kit (as they always do) without even looking.. Even though I was on a different machine, tried a different router, different filter and even switched off all the other electrical things...
anyway, i have got rid of mcafee now and have updated to AVG for spyware and virus ... it found loads of crap so mcafee wasnt doing its job or was mucked up in some way
