Hi all,
I popped nto Jessops today as they had their sale on and I got a colorplus monitor calibration unit. I've run it on the laptop and the changes its made look quite significant. So I've used a .RAW pic to process using the new calibration and post it next to the previous processing prior to calibration.
I'd appreciate comments on if it looks better now or not.

Jon, made a little difficult because of different sizes. I'm not sure, also, whether you're asking the right question. Calibrated or not the appreciation of the photo is still pretty much subjective. I think the pictures look different (lighting) but I can't judge which is better. I did have a train of thought, but now I've lost it...sorry! Why do we calibrate? I think it is so we all see the same thing - I've a calibrated monitor; so if I say something looks bright then you probably know what I'm talking about - rather than saying 'bright, bright...what's he talking about!' I'll shut up now...Chris

Thanks Chris,
Yep I know what you mean. After I posted this I thought about it and asked myself the same question. I guess we calibrate the monitor not for how the photo will appear to others online (see my comment about HD tv adverts in a similar thread) but so the print will look the same as on the monitor when we print it out.

Personally I prefer the first one..
There's more colour and feel to it...
The second looks a bit lighter...

I think thats more down to the amount of saturation I applied (or not). Btw...decided on your calendar pose yet?

Yep - it wuld be pointless us judging unless our monitors aer calibrated to yours!
Nice shot though!
