I'm spending christmas in Paris, so I'm looking to combine a bit of romance with some photography. Now seeing as any other time I've been, the consensus has been on good food, excellent wine and some proper dirty local women, I haven't really had the chance to scout around the city.

I know the obvious landmarks, but I'm looking for some hidden gems, so if anybody has some good locations could you please share them?

Musee D'Orsay is a lovely art gallery / museum. not as big and famous as the Louvre, but really nice.
It used to be a railway sation, but I'm afraid I don't know the address. (It's fairly central).

Other than that, I'm afraid it's always been the usual suspects when I've been.

Thanks Robbie. I've had a wee look around their website and they certainly seem to have a very impressive collection, coupled with some stunning architecture. Will definately make a trip to it.

A wee bit too much detail there, but appreciated nonetheless. **Bindii Rules**

Montmartre is very nice -

if you go the Louvre ..don't go in through the glass pyramid (if there are big queues - possibly not a problem in December) ... face into the pyramid with the river on your right. On your left is an archway through the building. Go through the archway and near there is an unmarked entranceway with escalators dropping down into the entrance hall. It's the entrance the Parisiennes (sp?) use.

When you get to the Mona Lisa - do try and avoid saying "isn't it small" :)

I also liked the Science Museum at (I think) Port Villette. You used to be able to buy 3&5 day Metro cards - great value for hoping on and off all the time.

La Defence is also impressive - a good walk down the champs elysee - but the Metro will get you there fine.

Enjoy! and watch out for pick-pockets

Cheers

Mark,

Fantastic post, thanks very much mate! :)

Great tip about the Louvre. Last time I was there, I spent the best part of an hour trying to get in, eventually giving up and going down the pub. :laugh1: I'll be sure to take a trip here this time, now I know how to beat the queues. Are they as strict about photography inside as our museams?

I thought the mona lisa being tiny thing was an urban myth...obviously not..

I'll be sure to check out the other 2 also. Did you by any chance pay a visit to the zoo? If so, is it worth a visit?

As for the pick pockets...my Mum and Dad were there earlier this year, and my father spotted someone inside my Mum's bag...there was a big fight...it was fabulous by all accounts. I'm 6ft and a 16st rugby player, so if they're sensible I'll be the last person they target. :laugh1:

Thanks again!

Hi Ross,

I never made it to the Zoo - sorry - not my cup of tea. I prefer to wander off the beaten track and see a bit more of the real Paris.

I don't think it's the ones you see that you have to worry about - it's the ones that get you without knowing - and some of the little bar-stewards are VERY VERY good. My mate lost his phone, keys and wallet and didn't realise till he got back to his hotel. He reckons they "did him" on the Metro when everyone was bunched up.

If you do go to La Defence - go to the Grand Arche and take the lift up (in a clear tube) to the top - you can go out on the roof and look back down the Champs Elysee - there's a cafe up there too. You have to pay for the lift but IMHO the view is excellent. Not quite the Eiffel Tower - but very good all the same.

Enjoy!!

Cheers

Mark

Museum of modern art (George pompedeu) for me. Fun building and lots of characterure artists infront.

Red light district?

Too many standard pics are taken, worthwhile doing something very random.
