Just been browsing the past weeks posts to see what I've missed. When I logged on late Friday evening I thought 'there's a different feel to the forum'.
Anyone else noticed a change???

similar situation for me as i have been away for 3 days and 157 posts to try to catch up on !!!!

re the "diff feel" i would say that there are so many new faces in here its real hard to keep up with it all so i am tending towards the "ole crew" when trawling thro the "New Posts"............. but it certainly hasnt losts its cuddly feel

Oh Bindii, of course it's fun, you can have a right old laugh looking at my photos!!

I think there's just an awful lot of new faces all at once.
The result of that is that it's much busier and therefore easier to miss something.
It's still friendly and still fun too tsk tsk Bindii

I never said it still wasn't fun...what I said is its not as much fun anymore...

and I have nothing against new faces on the forum either...there are some lovely new peoples here now...and its always good to see new images too...even if half of them are crap...

alright thats my half...

I dread this forum turning into the same as all the others out there...and while I know it will happen eventually....it has too....more and more people join up until the majority rules...still I aim to go down kicking and screaming...:)

That's my babe.. Good lass...

Well I'm posting less due to the fact I'm a
bit busy with the pantomime...

But I do try and check out everyones photos,
even if I don't update anything..

I almost feel like apologising for joining, and I know that Bindii wasn't meaning anyone in particular (least I hope not, lol). All the same, it's not nice to feel the way that's Bindii is feeling, and as I am a new face, I am part of the reason why Bindii is feeling this way.
I'll quieten down a bit. I'm not qualified to comment on anyones photos anyway, and most of them look beautiful to me.
I just wanted somewhere to learn from and not be judged or belittled (Georges sarcasm aside).
My hormones are raging at the moment, bloody women eh?!

I was not referring to you directly Roz...and you have just as much right to post here and be yourself as anyone else does...if you don't feel welcomed then I apologise...I would have thought that you felt comfortable enough here though...after all we have all been friendly to you....and helped you with your photography...no one is judging you or belittling you...so I certainly hope that you don't feel that way...

Roz, don't be daft you've been here less than a week and made almost 100 posts surely if you'd not been welcomed you wouldn't have done that.

I just wanted somewhere to learn from and not be judged or belittled

And that's why this is the best forum going I can safely say that noone has ever belittled my photos on this forum.

I'm not qualified to comment on anyones photos anyway

I said that once and got a 'virtual' clip round the ear, at the very least you know what you like so you can say that and noone no matter their experience has all the answers. So long as your comments are polite and constructive noone will get upset or if they do, they don't belong here(imo)

Sue, I don't think we've really lost any of our regular crowd.
If you think about it Barry has just started a new business, Waif & KP have just become grandparents so I guess they're busy, George is busy with panto as he said, Tony's not been well and Kirsty's only been at Uni for 5 minutes she's probably not sobered up yet
I don't think anyone else is missing are they?

now come 'ere give us a hug and cheer up XXXkissXXX

Oh God no, I don't feel that way at all!! And I do feel very welcomed. I would just hate to think that someone didn't like it here as much coz I was here.
Well, now that's cleared up, I shall continue to amaze you with my photos. I was going to go down the river today, but had to take 5 year old to the library instead, and part with £21 in fines!! I did get two books on digital slr photography :Dm . Hopefully I'll go tomorrow, then I'll upload the "best" ones for you lot to fiddle with.

It's showing images and thinking about others images that's the way to learn but the hardest part is being self-critical. It's easy to post stacks of pics and let others sort them out but you don't get any useful feedback. If there's so many the viewer gets visual indigestion you'll get an overall comment that will tell you nothing.
I get people on my workshops to show what they feel is their best image from a project without comment. The group then discusses the image, any 'oh that's nice' gets a cool reception, it's why it's thought to be nice that matters. The author then gives their comments and reaction to the discussion. Remember those who are thought of as good togs rarely post indiferent images, so if you know of a problem with a shot don't post it unless you need help to overcome that problem. Equally even the most experienced of us should still be learning, every one has a contribution to make.

The success of the forum has bred it's own changes.
By being such a constructive, open, honest and welcoming place a lot of people who would be put off by the snobbier, cliquier and up-their own arse type forums have felt able to post their images.
What many of us do is start by posting a lot, as it's a novel experience to be welcomed somewhere where we fell able to post.
The feedback we get from the more experienced members allows us to be more self critical, and we then probably post less - what we do post is still critiqued, and we continue to learn.
I've yet to get to the stage where I post a lot again, as I have yet to improve or develop a style.
However, I continue to benefit from the more experienced members advice, criticism and suggestions.

As new members join let's continue to make them welcome, let them post loads, and watch them develop their confidence as they start to move away from "I don't know enough to comment" towards making their own suggestions and critiques.

Please don't think I aim "I don't know enough" at any one in particular - I clearly remeber typing exactly that on different threads, and I beleive it was a particular bone of contention in the Simon Cowell camp.

And, newer members, please don't be put off if sometimes more established members fondly reminisce about the days when it was a smaller community - there have often been complaints of " it's always the same dozen or so people who post" - well, that can't be said now!

I don'k know if I've communicated what I was trying to, and I really am not trying to annoy anybody with this post. I'll save that for most of my other posts.

I dont think it is a problem - over the last few weeks i have come to realise that things have changed, but i like to feel i have adapted to it and modified my thinking

i used to get online and look at every post and try and same summit about each image esp weddings........... but now the posts are so rapid, varied and numerous that i cant keep up anymore....

..... so i now pick and choose which i respond to or even read........ but i know that there will be enough of "us oldies"( in a time served manner of course) to comment on probably every post............ so now i post when i can and no longer worry about missing someone out............ so if anyone is feelin i have let them pass by without a look / comment then i apologise for that........ its just the way the place has evolved

Yup, I still love it here, no change there.

Yes there will be more & more members joining 'cos it's such a cool forum but on a number of occasions in the past, certain 'undesirables' have been given short shrift and sent packing, thereby protecting the community that appreciates the place.

The fact that there are more posts now means we each have to make a choice when we log on:

We can either
Spend more time than before reviewing all posts and commenting
OR
Skim through the new posts and comment on threads that concern/interest/annoy/inspire us.

I know I have been using the 'New Threads' button a lot more recently, but that's 'cos I'm a busy bunny at the moment and can't spend as long in here as I'd like.

So welcome one and all! Come on it....sit down....have a drink....join in....this is the way we are in here and if you don't like it or try and cause trouble...we'll set George's dogs on you!

The only real change is that there are a lot more members, I think that's an asset as long as the reins are kept tight and that these don't get into the same routine as other forums.

I for one have benefitted, with the knowledge given to me, the constructive critism and the advice that has been offered is absolutely wonderful. That I believe is the main reason that new 'togs' are coming here to benefit from those who can offer pearls of wisdom. (with the odd bit of playful sarcasm thrown in).

I really look forward to seeing all the new photographs posted on here as many have given me ideas to improve on my own work.

I am my own worse critic and if it wasn't for friends, family and you people on here, I wouldn't be as confident as I am now.

Hope this will keep on improving as I believe it will.

I dont get on here much lately, not because I dont like it, I love it, but because I have been extremely busy trying to get a new house and also with work.

This is a great forum, where I hope to learn as much as possible, as we never stop learning. I hope to help others also.

This forum works, I feel, because of the honesty, quality management and solid moderators. The members arent bad either lol.
