I was just reading through all the posts from our most long standing members that the size of the forum is quickly growing.
I also see occasional posts from newcomers (like myself) that they are having a problem in uploading pictures (like myself).
I just wondered if it was an idea to have a section like a test page where members could try out uploading without getting in the way of all the other sections.
Only a thought. Maybe a silly one at that.

There is the odd exception but generally once someone reads the posting guidelines and ensures that their pic is sized correctly...and that it is the right format...then they are able to post pics easily enough.
I'm not against having a testing area though if some people are still having problems attaching pics...

I think Jim has a valid point.
I refered a work mate to the forum he posted a couple of pictures a few months back anf then nothing.
He was showing me a picture he had taken on a holiday that needed a bit of fixing and I asked why not put it on the forum, and his reply to me was that he found it hard to upload his pictures as he wasn't sure on how to resize his images.
I must admit that I couldn't really help him much as when all I do when uploading is to keep shrinking my pictures until the upload is accepted. sometimes this takes a few go's. But it would be good to know how to upload them as to not loose size and quality. as many of my pictures that I upload look like they have had an extra dose of saturation or become less focused on upload

I may be mildly missing something here - but is that not what the 'preview' button is for?
Of course, a) Some people don't preview first, and b) Who reads rules anyway - so maybe this is a good idea.
My question is this - if this will be for the people who don't read guidelines, or hit the preview button, how do you let them know there's a specific forum for testing? Sure, you'd think that having 'Post your test images here first' as a forum would be enough, but not everyone is as intelligent as....

My original idea wasn't meant to just look at your images on screen to see what they looked like.
From my own bitter experiences I found that even when I uploaded my pictures as attachments underneath the message box, that the message would often appear without my picture.
I still cannot attach a picture even though they are in jpeg format and down to less than 60 Kbs and usually down to 500 x 350 ish in size.
Whenever I press the upload button I get the IE page saying "This page cannot be displayed"
I have tried with Firefox but with the same results.
I can only send pictures that I have previously uploaded to Photobucket or Flicker.com.
There must be other people have similar troubles and I thought it would be better to be able to test uploading without going straight to a forum.
I was not suggesting that test pictures should attract criticisms or judging and they could be deleted after say 24 hours.
Perhaps it's a daft idea but I thought it might help new members who are having problems.
