My worst nightmares have come true! My old iConnect PC running ME has packed up and I'm forces to use my new PC running Windows XP. I can't believe what XP is doing to my photos!!!
They look perfect on screen but when I try to print them....Oh! God, they look terrible. Obviously, XP is geared to publishing "On Screen". The morons at Microsoft are not aware that some of us like to print out our photo's.
It takes many print outs to find the nearest to a reasonably good photo. Can someone PLEASE put Microsoft out of business?
I've recently been told that I should have tried a "Mac" PC.
mY old PC recently locked up and I had to do a manual shut down. Now, It will not accept a Mouse! I've tried everything including re-loading Windows, (4 times), with no success. I've lost so much work that I feel suicidal!!!!!!

Hi Alan i'm sure this problem is due to you needing to get some kind of calibration software as i had same problem and ended up getting a spyder suite but i've read on site that they can be hired on here for £10...

What do you mean when you say reloaded it..do you mean you used a recovery disc?

No, I used the Windows ME disc and reloaded ME without formatting the drive. Now, I cannot use a Mouse. One error message I got was, " Unable to copy VXMOUSE" whatever that means, but I assume that my PC cannot now install the mouse drivers. I suspect that I may have to have the hard drive from the old PC installed in my new PC in order to re-gain access to all my files and folders.

It can install drivers you need to find that driver...If you have internet access on other pc you can download the driver ( vx mouse) put it onto floppy disc and put it on computer that needs it! Hope that helps :)

Alan, look for the driver at DriverGuide.com, if Kya's suggestion doesn't work then try uninstalling the mouse in device manager and then reinstalling it (I know it sounds like a simple obvious thing, but it worked for me). Failing that, boot into safe mode and see if the mouse shows up...this was also the case when I ran ME.

WHOOPEEEEEE! Thanks to you all for your advice, it worked! I've now got my old PC running again by downloading the mouse drivers and re-installing. I can't thank you all enough.

I agree Tony. I started on Macs and swore by them. Now I only swear at them since PC's are soooo much quicker. and cheaper. and more intuitive.
Now as I recall, the origin of this thread was all about pictures being printed. Did you use the same monitor Alan? If not couple up the same monitor and all should be well.

Hi Tony, I do profile my new monitor, (it only makes a slight improvement), but the spider won't work on the old monitor, (ME), but it's not necessary on my old PC as the colours are true.

Well folks, I've tried everything and my conclusion is: for publishing photos to a screen XP is OK, but for printing them to paper "XP is C..P"! I've tried everything, and what you see on the screen has no comparison to what prints out. I spend ages manipulating my photos on screen and printing many examples to paper paper before I get it right. I'm going to have to set up my old iConnect with ME so I can work with my photos again and I've only got until April to get things right again.

How much control do you have ith your printer settings?

I profiled my monitor, then printed a 'test' print, and adjusted the PRINTER until the prints were as close as I could get to what the monitor showed me.

Certainly close enough for client proofs etc, and I haven't had to adjust the printer every time I profile the monitor either!
