Just a quick query, my wifes laptop each morning for last couple of days seems to reset the computers internal clock back to mar 1999, so before we can even boot it up i have to go into bios and set time and date again each morning. Any ideas to why this is happening, im thinking a duff battery within the computer (those small silver ones purely for bios rather than main battery), or perhaps a virus.

I would have thought battery but it appears her sisters pc is doing the same thing although this is a new system.

Hi Barry,

The CMOS battery must be gone. Usual life is about 5 years but that is what keeps the old internal clock ticking.

Try changing that first.

If it only happens when you reboot then definitely the battery!
