Right you read it on the header, this class is on portraits.. They can be of whomever you want but must be in mono, lit however you want with emphasis on catching their character and positioning them in the frame.. Also remember how your final shot is presented... borders, ofset canvas' etc.. Looking forward to seeing these.. Might even be a touring Bindii shot in here!!

I have issues with this one (apart from the graininess) and I wonder if you pick up on them too.

Well portraits seem to be your thing.. All of you..

Kirsty, nice street shot (that's going to be a later class) but not enough of your subject to be a portrait. we need to see his face and get a feel for his character.. 6/10

Lionheart, lovely shot... Though I might use a little less diffussion, but that's just my taste.. It looks a little soft on the guy.. 9/10

Renee, great capture. I'd say they love that shot.. Will you post it in mono.. 8/10

Martin, I love the eyes but there seems to be alot of noise and he's a bit low in the frame..Maybe if it was cropped square it would give the baby more attention. 8/10

Chris, great shot and expression. I'm not sure about the really high contrast, looks almost like a photocopy. It is striking tho and you do get to study the subject. 8/10

Olivia, the only thing about this one is the border running behind her shoulders. Not that big a deal at all but might be the only thing taking from a lovely photo. 9/10

Lowryn, the only thing I'd crit in this one is the angle of your light. It takes the shape away from her chin and jaw line. Try having the light raised and offset to the left or right a bit to help fix that. other than that I like the eyes and movement in her hair and your presentation. 8/10

Esso, no crits at all. Great moody shot with unusual lighting. 10/10

George, another lovel shot.. The only thing, and I'm guessing it's from the scan, is it seems a little soft around her eyes.. 9/10

Jon, I keep looking at this one. A lovely capture and well cropped. I'm undecided if it neeeds to be a touch brighter on their faces... 9/10

Darren, brilliant. Plain & simple, brilliant.. 10/10

Earl, again, brilliant.. Can't flaw this at all.. 10/10

Great shots this week class.. I'm meeting up with Bindii tomorrow so teach may never be seen again!!!!

Sorry Sir but I don't do proper portraits any more. Sold off all my stuff for that years ago. So, I have put this on, hope that it is okay.

Hey class, sorry about the delay. Crazy week... Just back from Germany.. Never met up with the travelling Bindii, though I'm sure I've retained my sanity for that reason...

Jon, that looks better and I like the slight softness you put on the mothers face... 10/10

Ade, a really good shot. Great expression, clarity, catchlights n all. My only suggestion would be to lower the crop so that there's a touch more upper body and a little less space above his head. Essentially try and centre his face more in the fame and also remember to add borders or some sort of presentation.. 8/10

Deillub, a nice capture but out of focus and too dark.. If you can get your granddaughter the same way again (good luck!!) try using a tripod and making sure there's more light on her. And remember the crop and presentation (frame, borders etc are hugely important) A nice effort tho.. 6/10

David, that's a great shot.. You've used the available light really well, edited it and presented it very nicely.. My only thing would be the slightly dead eyes (no catchlights) in the lad in front, but I know it's not always possible without a studio setup, and the high contrast would be a bit of an issue too (though you took care of it very well).. Overall though a great capture well edited and presented.. 9/10

Angii, I really like this tho I'm not sure if I'd call it a portrait (that might be just me tho...) Great composition, lighting and pose.. I'd like to have seen a similar one with the boxers face in it.. 8/10

Renee, much better.. Adds a softness and timelessness to it.. I might adjust the contrast a touch, in curves or levels, to lift it out of the all grey. 9/10

Mal, again a really good capture and composition. It needs more oomph which you should be able to do in levels editing. Like Renee's shot it needs a bit more contrast and also some depth and remember the framing/borders.. 7/10

Stu, fantastic shot.. my only tiny suggestion would be a bit more light on her left side.. Just on the inner well of her eye, and I'm talking a tiny bit.. Great shot tho and I'm just being picky 'cos I'm the teach!!! 10/10

I've a few more ideas for the next class but would love to hear some suggestions, taking into account that there should really be 2 photos taken of the subject (1st shot and re-shoot).. I know I've been mitchin off more than you lot but I'll try n work it out quicker so the whole class takes no more than a week n a half...

Here is my effort.
My son Harry would rather look at the TV then the camera but I still quiet like this shot.
I had the flash, hand held on a sync cord to his left.

No you have done fine Jackie...small images load well...especially for those poor souls who are on dial up still...lol.. If you want to add larger files thats fine but please remember that 800 pixels on the longest side and 160kbs is the largest that we allow...:)

Now all we have to do is track down the teacher...he seems to have gone AWOL for a couple of weeks....

oh Timmy...where is you sweety...we misses ya...XXXkissXXX
