I have to do a shoot in a night club and make it look dark like a red light district for a band. I have done a recce' and with avaiable light at 1600 asa I can capture the feel just right, a bit like stage lighting. As soon as I put any flash the mood was gone. I am intending to use 3 bowens esprit 500's with some gels....any sugestions.

MMM sorry this passed through the net. As soon as i read your post I was going to say bin the flash and use the ambient light. Why are you going to use the flash heads if you can get it with no flash at 1600 ?

I think the points raised in the thread about regulation are re-enforced by this question.
What's the point of doing a recce and not being able to read the results!
Will answered his own question but appears to lack the confidence and/or knowledge to act upon that answer.
Sorry if that's taken as being harsh but it's an honest opinion.

Hmmm. Tony, I don't think that could be just taken as harsh - I think it is harsh. I feel you are letting your thoughts/emotions spill over from another thread. The way I see it (I like to keep thing simple!) is that regulation is needed to prevent someone from messing up the job. Willphoto was simply asking for advice before the job in question - which is, surely, one of the reasons for being here. I agree that what he's asking is not clear: flash destroys mood, I'm going to use flash? But that's not the point. If I had every photographic qualification under the sun and a lifetime of experience (like yours) I doubt whether I would be confident in every single situation that could be placed before me. If someone did, I would be suspicious. It would upset me if I sought advice here and got your response.

Best Wishes

Chris

Chris; I take your point, I could have been more diplomatic however when someone asks question they have already answered??????

Hi Will,
In all honesty I don't think you will or could get a satifactory answer to this question.
The way to solve this is by being confident with lighting kit. By the way, have I missed another photography rule? Why three heads?
I always sort these jobs out using my rule of "it's what is not lit that makes an image successful".
Sorry not to be much help but I haven't done the recce.

Thanks for your comments folks. The reason for the concern is, shooting at 1600 is fine with half a second wide open for a picture of a chair, but a tall order to ask four people to stand still for half a second.
