When I'm shotting a car I always try to get a shot for the front cover, this is not a sure thing, but if you follow a few simple rules it gives you a sporting chance.
So what are the rules, well SPACE is what is needed, top and bottom. What do I mean about space, this is for the titles, price, and any other bits and pieces, these have to go somewhere. This also applys for the centre pages, where the text ( Story) has to go.The plainer the background the better, big bits of skys etc. are great. but don't skimp on the subject, it has to have impact. Don't forget this mag. has to sit on the shop shelves with hundreds of others, (and there may be five to ten on the same topic.) Watchout for the background, make sure it feels right with the subject.
The example below is of a copy of a racing 69 Camaro, so what better place to shot but on the track, we had kind permision of Goodwood for these shots, allowing us use most of the track.
The shot was done on fuji velvia, Canon eos 1, 17-40L. Hope this makes sence, now you know why I photograph cars not write about them..........
