Since the light is terrible up here today, I'm having a day in practising my mono conversions. This image is proving problematic for me, but I think it's screaming out to be converted, so would be interested to see what results you lot can come up with.

desaturated in hue/saturation and then tweeked in curves. A bit of jpeg artifacts creeping in due to the compression.

Oh that looks quite cool, Tony. I actually keep forgetting to try desaturation as a means for mono. Pity about the compression though, but that's the troublewith saving for the web.

Well I've had about 30 attempts with this image now, perhaps it's not screaming out for conversion qute as much as first thought. :laugh1:

I gave it a try too, but ended up with a pixelly sky but house detail came right out, but nope wasnt happy.

I thought I would give it a try. I thought I would render in some lighting.

Yep, that's pretty much what's happening wth me too mate. I may have one last try when I get home today, but if that doesn't work, then the image is getting deleted and I'm forgetting about it. lol

Paul, that actually looks quite cool mate. Love the flare, adds to the pic nicely. Great job!

I've had a little play with this one, first i converted to mono using channel mixer, then increased contrast and highlights using the dodge and burn tool, and lightened the houses using dodge, then added a colour fill layer and decreased the opacity for the sepia 'stormyish' look. i also made a feathered selection of the ground in front of the houses , lightened it slightly and added a small amount of noise to simulate a bit more texture rather than just a dark area

not sure if its what you were hoping for when visualising the image but though i'd have ago anyhows!!
